Good morning fabulous year 3!

As yesterday was such a busy day, let's make today a little bit more fun!! First though, I'd like to show you the lovely photo Charlie and his Mum sent me of his fabulous natural art work yesterday. He collected a range of natural resources and created a super piece of art. If you haven't had chance to do yours yet, do have a go and send me a photo.

Music

On Friday it is the 75th anniversary of VE Day. In the evening, the nation is going to do a sing-a-long to the song by Dame Vera Lynn We'll Meet Again. For music today, I would like you to learn the words in preparation so you can join in with everyone. The words are here. Also, here is a link to an audio clip of the song. Good luck!

Computing

Last week we started looking at simulations and you researched what they were. This week, I would like you to at a simulation on PurpleMash. Click on the 2Do I have set then choose the Locked Out simulation (The green keys). Go through the simulation, choosing the correct solutions by clicking on the characters and making decisions. Discuss these decision with the people at home, would they make the same choices?

Problem: Millie's birthday was on the 31st of the month. She can't remember which month it was. Which months could it have been?

Activity;

L.O. To record the time in minutes and seconds.

Today, I'd like you to use a stop watch to time people in your family doing activities.

These are some examples of the activities that you could time them doing;

1. Getting dressed.
2. Brushing their teeth.
3. Setting the table.
4. Tidying their bedroom.
5. Clearing the table after lunch/tea
6. Preparing a meal.
7. Doing 20 star jumps.
8. Running 10 times around the garden.

You could time 2 people doing the activities (one at a time) and display your results in a simple table. If you timed 2 different people you could tell me who was the quickest at each activity.

Remember, you can choose different activities if you like. I just thought these might be helpful ones for Mum or Dad!!

English;

L.O. To use a dictionary to find the meaning of a word or check the spelling.

Today I'd like you to practise locating words in a dictionary. It is helpful to be able to confidently do this so you can check the correct spelling of a word or check the meaning of a word.

Here is the list of words. Please make a simple table in your book (don't forget your ruler); one column for the word, one for the page number you located it on and then one for the meaning of the word (as listed in the dictionary). Please use a dictionary rather than the computer so you are developing your dictionary skills! No cheating!!!

These may be tricky to find so do work with an adult as you search for the words.

Woof to youall!

I hope you are all ok and staying safe. I'm still staying at home. We are having fun and having extra cuddles here.

I had a really special weekend because it was my 10th birthday! Wow, I ate so many sausages! I had loads of balloons, a sausage cake and a dinosaur party with games! We even had dog music, my favourite. Lucky for me the weather was lovely and we got to have a picnic in our garden. I wore a party hat but only for a few minutes because it made my ears tickle. My family asked me to wait to open my presents until the morning and it was hard because I could sniff the tasty treats inside! Afterwards, I had a lovely long sleep and dreamt about running and barking to the hokey cokey. I enjoy that dance and know all of the moves.

I can't wait until I see you again at school and we can chat about our time staying at home and all the things we've done with our families. I hope you and your families are ok and hope to see you woofy soon.

Good morning Year 3!

It is so lovely to be back! I've really missed adding my daily blogs, reading your lovely emails and seeing the fantastic photos of all the wonderful activities you're doing. Hope you are all really fit and well and ready for another busy week!!

Here are the activities for Monday!

09.00.  Why not begin the day with Joe Wicks again? His morning workouts on YouTube are the perfect way to begin the day! Remember to ask the adults to join in too.

10.00 Grammar: Today, let's recap some of our learning in grammar. Work with an adult to have a go at the activity 'Revision 2' which is on page 28 and 29 of your grammar textbook. If you don't have the textbook or a sheet, here is the activity;

Here are a few reminders to help you;

Don't forget an 'adverb' tells you more about the verb and many end in 'ly' eg quickly, slowly....

A 'proper noun' is the real name of the person or place and will need a capital letter.

A 'preposition' tells you when an event happened or where it is in relation to something else.

11.00 Comprehension;

Select one of the comprehensions in your pack OR have a go at this one! You may want to write the answers in your book or discuss them orally with an adult instead.

13.00 Maths

Problem:

Tom went to a party at 3:30pm. If he stayed at the party for 1 and a half hours, what time would he be leaving the party?

Extension; What time would this be on a 24 hour clock?

Activity:

L.O. To learn the number of days in each month of the year.

Begin by working with an adult to try and learn the 'Months of the year rhyme'. If it will help, you may want to copy it out.

30 days of September, April, June and November,

All the rest have 31, except February alone,

And that has 28 days clear,

And 29 in a leap year.

*It's also handy to learn that when making a fist and working along the knuckles and the 'dips' whilst saying the months in order from January, the months on the knuckles are those with 31 days!

Now try the activity on page 105 (you will find this in your pack). Try 10 questions in either A or B. 

2.15pm Art

Can you make a piece of artwork using the natural resources in your garden or those you find on a walk? This time, the aim is to create a small scale scene; it may be a forest, woodland or garden scene. When you have collected your items, eg dandelions, daisies, other weeds, leaves, small twigs etc find a flat surface indoors and use a piece of coloured paper/card as your background. Think of your design and create your miniature scene by arranging the natural items you've collected on the paper. You may have tried this on a larger scale, but today try and make it smaller, adding more detail. Take a photo of your design.

Hello, Miss H here! I would just like to say how amazing it has been hearing from you all over these past two weeks! This is just a little goodbye for now but I am still going to be keeping up with how you are getting on through the blog and Mrs Matthews! Remember to look at the school blog for the Lego challenges, last week this week! 

Remember, please don't panic if you are struggling to complete all the activities; select the ones you can complete and try others another time. Most importantly, have fun!

What a week filled with all sorts of exciting activities, adventures and reasons to celebrate! I have loved hearing from you all! Please don't worry if you don't get everything done, every day! We just want you and your families to be safe, positive and happy! The year 3 team are extremely proud and think everyone is doing a marvellous job! 

Max C and his family have just got involved with an amazing project. They are making face masks adapters for the NHS to stop the elastic rubbing on their ears. Remote Learning Friday 1st May 2020

Well another week has flown by and Friday is here already! Thank you to everyone who has got in contact with us, it is so lovely to hear from you as we have missed your all incredibly! Here is something that went out in the newsletter on Wednesday, just a message from everyone at school …

It is another fun Friday in literacy! Today we are going to predict what happens next …

Mike and his friend Joe are experienced rock climbers enjoying what they do best. However, as the sky begins to cloud over quickly, spots of rain fall. 

Your task is to write what happens next. Here are some ideas to think about:

• What dangers are there around Mike?
• What problem could happen to Mike?
• How could it be fixed?
• How do Mike and Joey finish the story?

The Brilliant Bags Company want to make a new book bag for children to use to carry their things to and from school. They want to make sure the bag helps children stay safe while walking near roads on dark mornings or evenings. They have decided to put a reflective strip on the book bag, so that drivers can see the book bag easily when their car headlights shine on it.

You are going to have to test how reflective materials are. You will need 6 materials to test such as CDs, tin foil, paper, different fabrics, bubble wrap, cardboard.

In order to test the materials, you will need to make a reflection tester.

Attach a piece of white card to a torch:

1. Cut a hole in the centre of the card and push the torch through so that the card fits snugly around the torch without you having to hold it.
2. Shine the torch at the material you are testing.
3. If the material reflects light well, you will see the reflected light shine through the white card and light it up.

Which material do you think will be best for the bag? Write your prediction down and create a results table in your home learning books. It could look like this or an example can be found here:

You will need to test the different materials to see how reflective they are. After, you need to decide which would be best for the book bag. Explain why you choose the material and think about what happened when you tested it and what it looks and feels like.
