Class 3
Friday 3rd April
admin on: Class 3
Good morning all!
Thank you so much for all your amazing hard work; I am so proud of you all!
Here are Friday's activities!
9.00am Joe Wicks P.E. workout (via YouTube)
Let's all join amazing Joe Wicks and see if we can get really fit and healthy!
Science Fun!
If you managed to find some white carnations in the supermarket, did you try placing one of the flowers in coloured water to see what happens? If you haven't yet, please do have a go; the transformation is lovely to see.
Can you make sure you draw and label the flower once you have placed it in the coloured water (blue food colouring is a good one to try).
Leave it for a few hours, then have a close inspection and note the difference.
Now draw and label it again.
Have a look on Purplemash to find out why this happens ('Transpiration')
You could add a conclusion ie tell us why this happened.
Holiday Science;
Please look out for 'sunflower' and 'beans' to plant whilst you're shopping in the supermarket (not the Heinz variety)!!
Save empty plastic cartons to use as plant pots.
Please could you plant one sunflower seed and look after it well! Please make a diary to record your observations (it might be the number of leaves, height of plant etc). How will you record your results?
Could you also plant beans in 3 separate plastic containers (one bean in each); label them A, B and C
If you use clear containers and place the bean down the side you will see progress quicker!
A. Provide lots of sun and water as required.
B. Provide no light and water as required.
C. Provide lots of sun and no water.
Can you predict what will happen? Take note of your observations.
Maths;
8 questions;
- 666 divided by 3
- 1/3 of 99
- 762 - 237
- 628 + 165
- 3/9 + 4/9
- What time is it?
- £4.26 + £3.25
- 955 divided by 5
Problem;
Archie and Emma had great fun making their Viking shields. If they started at 11.00 and finished at 12.30, how long did it take to make them?
Today I'd really like you to continue practising with your clocks but this time can you make a time with the clock, tell an adult what time it says and then ALSO what time it would be on a digital clock too. Keep practising lots and lots so you can understand both analogue and digital times before the end of the Easter holidays!
I have set 3 'time' activities on 'Mathletics'. Please could you try all 3. You could then try other 'time' activities too if you like.
Reading:
Please select one of your comprehensions out of your pack and carefully read it before answering the questions.
Literacy;
Here are a few spellings I'd like you to practise. Copy each one at least 4 times; see if you can learn them!
'sc' but 's' sound
scene
scent
science
'que' but 'k' sound
antique
unique
physique
Today please can you try and complete your Viking Information Text or your play script (Into the Forest).
If you have completed these please continue with your special diary; try and write an entry every few days. It would be lovely to know what you have been doing when you haven't actually been busy with school jobs!!!
Hope you all have a fantastic Easter break. I won't be blogging every day over Easter but will keep tuning in to set you a little challenge so keep watching!! There will also be Lego challenges from Miss Hemingway and practical challenges from me; so don't forget to check the blog!!
See you all very soon!
Keep smiling and have lots of fun!

Good morning everyone!
Thank you so much once again for all your lovely messages and all the fabulous photos! I'll post more of them later today! They're just too good to miss!
Here's today's activities! Thought we'd have some fun with craft activities later today!!
Maths;
8 questions;
- 676 + 205
- 882 - 327
- 44 x 4
- 990 divided by 10
- 32 x 100
- 1/5 of 60
- 2/10 + 7/10
- 452 + 40
Problem;
I made some chocolate crispy buns today. If I filled 5 trays with 8 buns on each tray, how many buns would I have made?
Activity;
Keep practising telling the time and recording the time to the nearest minute on your very own clock. The more you practise the better you will be. You'll never be late either!!!
Today, let's look at digital times. Your own clock will read minutes past and minutes to. However, a digital clock counts the minutes past, right up to 59, then changes to the next hour at '60'.
Can you work with an adult on the first 10 of these questions? Try more if you can.
eg 4:55 = 5 to 5
eg 2:40 = 20 to 3
Literacy;
Remind yourself of our story 'Into the forest' (you can access it via YouTube, but please make sure an adult is with you. Please focus on the conversations in the forest, where the little boy meets Jack, then Goldilocks and finally Hansel and Gretel. Now we have read quite a few play scripts in class, please could you have a go at writing a short play script for some (or all if you like) of the conversations in the forest. Remember you'll not need speech marks as it is a play script. Don't forget to set the scene and give stage directions in brackets!!
Here's a short example (I've named the little boy Tom);
Scene 1
Tom begins walking along the path through the dark forest. He meets a strange little boy with a black and white cow.
Tom: Hello!
Jack: Hello there! I have a very nice cow here. Would you like to buy it from me? It's a very good cow and has the tastiest milk. Please buy it. I don't want to go to market.
Tom: (Shaking his head) No thank you! I have to go!
Can you have a little go?
Remember to keep your handwriting really neat and tidy and try your best to join up if you can. Don't forget accurate punctuation and spelling too! Good luck!!
History and Art!!
How have you been getting on with your Viking research? Remember to use different sub-headings as you find out exciting facts. Did you find out about the different punishments given for crimes in Viking times? What happened at the Battle of Hastings and who won? Remember BBC Bitesize, Purplemash and twinkl are all excellent sites to help with your research.
Now for the fun part;
If you have some plain flour at home, some old newspapers and a bowl (or even a balloon) you could make a Viking helmet.
You might prefer to make a Viking shield; use some old cardboard (a cereal box or cardboard box would be great to use).
When you have finished it, dried it and painted it you may want to dress up and send me a photo or you could send me one as you're making it!
Have fun being very creative!
Reading;
Finally, share some special 1 to 1 reading time; listening to a lovely story and then reading to an adult. Remember to keep reading aloud every day. You may want to read poetry, fiction or non-fiction- it's up to you! Remember there are so many online eBooks at the moment (free of charge)- Oxford Owl or twinkl are offering them free at the moment. Enjoy!
Here is the challenge from Miss H for today! Remember to email us your creations! If you don't have Lego, don't worry any construction material will do …
Have fun!
Keep sending me your lovely emails and photos! Please don't hesitate to email me to let me know if you are having any difficulties with any of the activities. I am here to help!
Still keeping my fingers and toes tightly crossed that we are all back together in class 3 to enjoy at least some of the Summer term!
Take care!
