What a wonderful week.
I would like to say a huge thank you and you children for their kindnesses to me on Monday. How am I this old?
What a wonderful week, as I said. The children have worked so hard on everything we have covered this week. The have use Gusto so many times.
In Geography we are learning all about a contrasting location to our home in the beautiful Holme Valley - Blackpool. We have learnt all about the human and physical features in Blackpool and thought of the similarities to home. Super work.
In Literacy, if you didn't think you wanted to visit Blackpool, you need to read some of the children persuasive texts this week. They have written all about the fun things that you can do in Blackpool, from the zoo to the top of the Tower. I will be visiting at the very next opportunity!
In Maths, we have started to look at fractions again. These can be really tricky, but you are being superstars and remembering all of you knowledge.
Keep working hard Class 3. You (as always) astound us!

What a week!
We have been busy bees, with some fantastic spelling scores on Monday, some super PSHE work on Tuesday. Wednesday was orienteering, Thursday we played the recorder for Miss Kelly and Friday we were newspaper reporters! Wow! And all of the rest - angles, mapping skills, light, writing, grammar, DT..... The list goes on!
Your recorder skills have come on so much in a week! The cacophony of last week has been replaced by beautiful gentle sounds. We have learnt two songs really well. I hope that we continue to play so clearly. What a great orchestra!
We had another lovely morning of orienteering on Wednesday. You used the maps to find the different locations and solved some tricky maths problems in your teams. What a lovely sunny thing to do. Even Aggy could join in with her broken leg. Well done.
We are really enjoying our PE lessons this year. You are working as teams so well, altering the games and being accurate with your rolling, throwing and hitting. Keep it up.

It has been lovely to welcome you all back into school this week. You have all come in ready and raring to go with our new topics. And what a first week back it has been!
We visited Blackpool Illuminations and took a tour down the promenade. We have then been writing some lovely pieces all about the history of the illuminations. Did you know that it began when the government gave Blackpool council £5000 to try out electric street lamps in 1879. They put 8 bulbs on 60 ft poles. People came from all around to see these wonders. Then in 1912 the Blackpool illuminations began a little more like we know them today, with 10,000 lights. There are over 1 million today.
We then visited Brazil and the Carnival!
We have also spent some time orienteering, which the class (and staff) absolutely loved.
We might not manage so many trips next week, but we certainly will be playing the recorders!

I have really enjoyed reading Matilda to you in class. I love doing the shouty voice for Miss Trunchbull and seeing your faces. Thank goodness that we have lovely teachers here at Netherthong.
You have all worked so hard on your assessments this week. Struck record time - You Make Me Proud!!!
We celebrated British Science Week (thank you to Mr Kershaw for organising). All of the children got to complete lots of different activities and investigations. It was lots of fun and the children were amazing.
We have loved working on our double page spreads all about the Vikings. You have so many facts written down, it is like we have a class encyclopaedia.
Fingers crossed that we have a weekend of wellness after last week. Enjoy your weekend and see you all for the last week of term on Monday.

Well, another busy week at Netherthong Primary school in Class 3.
In Maths, we have continued our work on measure. We learnt about capacity this week.
We have planted seeds in Science and they are currently waiting to germinate in bags hung up by the window. We are hoping that they will all sprout and start growing next wee. Fingers crossed.
In History, we continued learning about the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings and learnt about how the Vikings attacked at Lindisfarne.
We had a lovely day on Thursday to celebrate World Book Day. We listened to MC Grammar and his WBD song. It was a lot of fun and really made us giggle and join in too.
We created a journey map for the lovely book, the Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson and we also create tally charts of our favourite books and asked all the children in the class to fill each others in.
This day was made extra special because we had a lovely tea party in the Library. Miss Watkins read us some of Matilda, whilst we ate buns, biscuits or cakes and drank hot chocolates. What a lovely time we all had!
