Class 1 Mrs Parker
Welcome to Year 1!
We are incredibly excited for an action-packed year of learning and fun. Year 1 is a big transitionary point in school and the children develop so quickly! We want all children to feel safe and develop the confidence and independence to become lifelong learners, while having lots of fun and laughter along our journey!
All learning in Year 1 is varied and fun, incorporating an active, engaging and dynamic environment to enable children to flourish! Here is a little information as to what to expect while in Year 1.
We start the year still enjoying the warmth of summer with Some Like It Hot before transitioning onto What a Wonderful World. In the spring term explore Materials before ending our year by looking at our Big Country and jet setting off with Come Fly With Me. .
Books and reading are incorporated into everything that we do in Year 1! We will look at classics like ‘The Tiger Who Came For Tea’, before moving onto multi-media stimulus like ‘The Night Zookeeper’, all the while focussing on consistently remembering the big three…capital letters, finger spaces and full stops!
We have discrete phonic sessions daily using our “Read Write Inc.” scheme, consolidating the set 1 and 2 sounds learned in Reception, before moving onto set 3 sounds including split digraphs! These phonic sessions aid our literacy lessons, giving children the building blocks for spelling and composition of sentences.
We are very luck to have a beautiful woodland area within the school grounds and Mrs Pearce will be taking the children for some Forest School sessions throughout Year 1. They will learn lots of new skills as well as consolidating skills learnt during Reception Forest School sessions and the learning we are doing in class. These sessions develop teamwork, confidence, independence and creativity!
All in all, Year 1 is a fast-paced, energetic and exciting environment to develop in! Any questions, please use our class email address which is
