Class 1   Miss Millward

Welcome to Year 1 where we love to have as much fun as possible whilst we are learning!

About us:

In our class there are 30 children who are currently taught by Miss. Millward, until Mrs. Parker returns from Maternity Leave, and supported by Miss. Littler and Miss. Booth. Our class mascot is Mr. Monster who has special stars in his tummy which he awards each day to someone who has worked their socks off and shown ‘The Netherthong Way’.

Developing resilience and encouraging independence underpin all teaching and learning in Year 1 in order for our children to feel happy and safe and able to approach tasks and challenges with positivity, enthusiasm and confidence. We start every day with a ‘Wake up, Shake up’ dance and love to incorporate brain breaks and songs into our daily routine as often as possible to enhance our learning.

Days to remember:

We have Forest School every Monday where half of the class work outside in our fantastic woodland with Mrs. Pearce and Miss. Booth. Our P.E days are currently Tuesday and Friday but this will change to Tuesday and Thursday after October half term.

We also have ‘Show and Tell’ every Friday afternoon where we share special objects and events and celebrate our amazing achievements.

Curriculum:

This half term our topic is ‘Some like it hot!’ and we are learning about the different climate zones around the world. In Maths we are working hard on our number formation and counting skills. In English we are focussing on ‘The Tiger who came to Tea’ and will be writing our own version, ‘The Tiger who came to Class One’! We are trying really hard with our letter formation and remembering to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

Our Curriculum Themes for the rest of the year are:

Autumn 2: What a Wonderful World

Spring 1: Materials

Spring 2: Let the Battle Commence

Summer 1: Big Country

Summer 2: Come Fly with Me

Homework:

Daily Reading at home with an adult.
