admin on: Class 3
Good evening fabulous year 3!
Hope you are all having lots of fun at home. Remember to keep emailing me to let me know how things are going. Keep your fabulous photos coming too; I really enjoy seeing all your wonderful work and the pictures of activities you are enjoying.
Here are the activities for Wednesday;
P.E. Don't forget to begin the day with lots of exercise with Joe Wicks! He'll help you feel fitter for the day ahead! By the way, adults must join in too!!!
Maths; L.O. To read the time to the nearest minute'.
8 questions;
- £5.63 - £2.28
- 1/4 of 36
- 1/2 of 44
- 567 + 30
- 782 + 109
- How many mm in 6cm?
- 2L 450ml - 1L 250ml
- 755 divided by 5
Problem;
If Charlie began making his clock at quarter past 11 and finished at half past 12, how long did it take him to complete it? Use your clocks to help you work it out.
Activity (practical);
Can you practise making 'past the hour' times and then 'to the hour' times on your clock. If you haven't made your clock you will need to do this today! Make sure you mark every single minute on your clock; so there should be 4 markers between each number as it takes 5 minutes for the minute hand to reach the next number.
Many children find 'time' very tricky so just keep practising every day; both reading the time and making the time on the clock.
Try these;
Make 5 past 2, 10 past 2, 20 past 2, quarter past 2.........
Now try 5 to 8, 10 to 8, 20 to 8..........
Notice how you count the minutes from the 12; ie minutes past the '12', minutes to the '12' on the clock.
Practise reading and making many different times.
Now try;
3 minutes past 4, 12 minutes past 4, 28 minutes past 4.....
2 minutes to 7, 17 minutes to 7, 23 minutes to 7.....
Keep practising making lots of times like these.
Can you also read the time when an adult makes the time for you?
French
Can you write 5 French sentences about some very strange, funny-coloured animals?
Here are the names of some of the animals we know;
Un cochon
Un tigre
Un chien
Un chat
Une tortue
Une souris
Here are some of the colours we know;
bleu
rose
rouge
jaune
marron
vert
Can you draw and colour in 6 very strange 'alien' animals? They will be a different colour to those you usually see!!
It may be a green dog, for example..................so you would write 'Un chien vert' and draw a green dog.
It may be a yellow tortoise, for example............so you would write 'Une tortue jaune' and draw a yellow tortoise.
Notice the adjective follows the noun!!
Try 6 of your own. Remember to draw and colour them in.
Literacy;
Do keep writing a few lines in your diary so you can always remember what you did at home during the COVID19 pandemic. Your diary could be famous one day!

- The Cooper family are jumping on the trampoline.
- Romeo writes his 8 questions on his blackboard.
- Elsa sings beautifully.
- Amelia and her brother keep fit with Joe Wicks.
- Poppy runs down the steep hill.
- Mia is making an assault course.
B. Which word is my preposition showing 'time', eg until, at, during....
- We went for a long walk after tea.
- I will have finished my jobs in 10 minutes.
- We waited for two hours in the queue.
C. Which are my prepositions to show 'where'?
- We ran up the steep hill.
- They walked across the bridge.
- The troll hid under the bridge.
D. Can you write the correct contraction? eg didn't, wouldn't......
Remember the apostophe replaces missing letters.
eg Are not........................ aren't
- We are.........................=
- She will........................=
- I am..............................=
- They are.......................=
History;
Please can you continue with your fabulous non-fictional writing on the Vikings. You'll need to ensure you have a heading to begin with and sub-headings of your choice below. Last week you were focusing on Viking life. Continue with the sub-headings of your choice, eg food, clothes, homes, ... etc. One sub-heading I'd like you to look at is 'Crime and Punishment'; what can you find out? Remember to work with an adult if you are using the internet. Do add pictures too!
BBC bitesize (KS2 History) have a wide range of interesting clips.
Purplemash provide some interesting facts too.
Twinkl also provide lots of information too; as I mentioned, they are offering free membership for a few weeks. Setting this up is really easy to do - go to www.twinkl.co.uk/offer and enter the code UKTWINKLHELPS
See what you can find. Happy researching!!
Reading;
Today spend some quality 1 to 1 reading time with an adult and ask them to ask you lots of comprehension questions. Write a few lines about each book you read at home. It may be you want to tell me about the storyline or the characters for example. Tell me what you liked or didn't like about it.
Here is the challenge from Miss H for today! Remember to email us your creations! If you don't have Lego, don't worry any construction material will do …
Have fun trying as many activities as you can. If you aren't able to manage them all please don't worry, just do what ever you can. Most of all have lots of fun and enjoy special times with your fabulous family.
Take care and see you soon,
Mrs Matthews

Good morning everyone!
Hope you are all feeling fit and well and ready for another exciting day learning and having lots of fun!
Here are today's activities!
Music; (fun, practical activity)
I hear many of you had a great time making your clocks yesterday! Today would you like to make some simple percussion instruments so you can compose your own piece of music? You can use a variety of possible resources; sellotape, yoghurt pots, cardboard boxes, elastic bands, cardboard tubes (from kitchen roll or foil perhaps), pans, empty plastic bottles, dry pasta, rice for example. Can you compose a short piece of percussion music? How will you write your music?
P.S.H.E; ( health education poster- making)
Can you create a bright and colourful health education poster to remind everyone how to help themselves and others keep safe during the current corona virus epidemic? Remember to take care to make sure it's clear and eye catching. Take special care with spellings too!
Computing (linked to R.E.)- one paragraph only required.
Think of a leader that inspires you. It may be any leader at all; it may be the leader at a sports club you attend, it could be a political leader, the queen, a famous historical leader or perhaps our Headteacher. It may even be the leader at Cubs or Brownies. Using 'Word' please could you create a small piece of text (a paragraph is ample) to tell me who it is and why you are so impressed by them. What makes them a good leader? Again, you could insert a picture if you like and today do you think you could add a 'header' and a 'footer' to your page?
Maths;
Practise counting in 5's and reciting the 5x tables.
Practise telling the time today at frequent intervals. Keep practising making different times on your clock too; aim to work towards making times to the nearest 5 minutes if you can and later to the nearest minute.
In your pack you will find the activity below (section A or B page 102- 103). Select either A or B.
You will need to practise reading Roman numerals to 12 too!
OR
Literacy;
L.O. To write a list of simple instructions on how to make a healthy sandwich.
Did you enjoy making your healthy sandwich? If you haven't yet made it try and do that today as I'd really like you to then write a list of simple instructions using a heading, sub-headings, time related openers (first, next, finally) and 'bossy verbs' (eg put, spread, chop, grate....). I might even follow your instructions and make one myself!!
Here's an example;
How to make a tuna and sweetcorn sandwich
Ingredients
- 2 slices of wholemeal bread
- Butter
- .........
- .........
- ..........
Utensils
- Chopping board
- Butter knife
- ............
- ............
Method
- First collect all your ingredients and utensils.
- Next........
- Then.......
- After that.....
- Carefully......
Many apologies if there appears to be too many activities today; some of these need only be short. You may find your child can complete the music and PSHE totally independently too. Please don't feel under pressure, however, to complete all the activities in any one day if you/your child is struggling to do so. Select the activities you feel you are able to complete today and try the others another time. Perhaps begin with maths and literacy and share some special reading time together.
Here is the challenge from Miss H for today! Alfie did an amazing job yesterday along with Max! Remember to email us your creations! If you don't have Lego, don't worry any construction material will do …
Have a wonderful day together and have lots of fun!
Take care and keep very safe. Keep smiling too!
