Important information for next week and Friday gallery

admin on: Class 3

Wow! What a first week in year 3 I have had! A missive thank you to everyone of you who has been emailing us over the last week. It's so lovely to hear from you and see what you have been getting up to, especially all of the wonderful extra little activities that are doing that you would normally tell us about in school! We feel that it is of high importance that we hear from everyone and their families at least once a week so that we can check that you and your loved ones are safe, happy and well.

So with that in mind, I would like to have an email or blog comment from you or your parent at least once a week. From Monday 27th April, the weekly procedure will be that if we don't hear from you by the Thursday, we will be giving you a ring or an email to check that you are okay. This is purley designed to see that you are happy, engaged in the work and gives us, the year 3 team, the opportunity to keep in contact with you or your family.

As a school, I hope you understand that we are trying to keep in contact with pupils and parents so that we all still feel part of the Netherthong community. If there is anything that we can do to support you and your family in any other way please let us know and we will endeavour to put something in place.

A reminder that our email is class3@netherthongprimary.co.uk

Now here is our Friday gallery, a mixture of photos that have been sent in of the amazing work and activities that you have been getting up to! What superstars you all are!

Have a lovely weekend!

Remote Learning Friday 24th April 2020

admin on: Class 3

It's Friday! I can’t believe how fast this week has gone. I have decided to start making a few breakfasts during the week for myself, my mum and Grandma instead of having the same thing every day. Yesterday I made scrambled egg with tomatoes, a potato waffle and mushrooms. It was delightfully yummy! Here it is …

Maybe you could make a breakfast for someone, with the help of an adult of course! I will be updating you on Monday with the progress on my painting, I think it is looking rather stunning even if I do say so myself!

Here is the suggested timetable for today:

E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20 mins (remember to record your reading in your planners)

Active time - Joe Wicks guided PE lesson at 9am

(https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ)

Maths/Literacy - do this in batches of 20 mins each, build in breaks.

Break – How did the clapping go? Maybe create a banner for next week with the name of a key worker you know, to let them know you are thinking of them.

Science

Maths;

8 questions;

  1. 1/2 of 352
  2. 1/3 of 666
  3. 724 + 16
  4. 642 - 35
  5. 840 divided by 10
  6. 3/8 + 3/8
  7. What is the time now?
  8. What time will it be in 3 hours?

Activity;

Literacy;

It is going to be fun Friday’s in literacy! Today we are going to imagine a setting …

This is a scene from ‘Alice in Wonderland’. The surroundings seem so big, making Alice appear even smaller.

Imagine you were trapped in your school after you had been shrunk. Describe your journey from the door across the classroom. What dangers would you have to be careful of as a tiny person?

Challenge: Use a thesaurus to look up ‘big’ and ‘small’.

Science;

This half term in science we are going to be looking at light. Create a mind map to show what you already know about light.

Can you think of any questions you would like to find out about light? Here is an example:

Have a look through the PowerPoint and make a list of as many different light sources as you can think of.

Now we are going to play a game. What’s inside the bog? Ask someone to make a bag of different objects from around your house. Feel the object inside. Draw a table like my example and write a description and draw what you think is inside the bag.

Nearly forgot, here is the Lego challenge for today! Remember to email us your creations! If you don't have Lego, don't worry any construction material will do …

Thank you all so much for your hard work this week. I know it was quite hard after the Easter break to get back into the swing of things but you have all done brilliantly! I am going to create a collage of pictures tonight of all your fabulous work of the week so keep the emails coming today!

Have a lovely weekend and stay safe!

Remote Learning Thursday 23rd April 2020

admin on: Class 3

Another wonderful morning to you my lovelies! I hope you are all keeping safe and making sure you are treasuring every moment you can spend with your family. I was sent a very special book by a wonderful person yesterday, a complete surprise. As I began reading it my eyes filled with tears at the beautiful pictures and meaning behind the words. To us, as a family at the moment, it is very meaningful and is making me appreciate, even more, every moment I spend with the ones we care about, even if it is over video chat! Here is one of the pages from the book …

Break – Maybe you could spend sometime outside, you could try doing some gardening?

Art

Maths;

8 questions;

  1. £4.51 + 36p
  2. £6.67 + £1.41
  3. 1/4 of 48
  4. 364 + 40
  5. 924 - 30
  6. 43 x 3
  7. 2/7 + 3/7
  8. What is the time?

Activity;

Grammar;

We are going to be looking at some grammar today. I have set you a 2Do on PurpleMash. You are going to complete the Superhero Shopping Trip task, where you will be looking at the formation of nouns using a range of prefixes.

Art;

In the news on Tuesday, the artist Tom Croft, has painted key workers for free so they have something to remember how everyone has come together and worked as a team. Here is a video link to find out more about what he did:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/entertainment-arts-52319539/coronavirus-artist-tom-croft-paints-nhs-key-worker-portraits-for-free

Today, I would like you to take some inspiration from him and create a picture of the people in your home, so you can look back and remember who you have spent so much time with. You could sketch your picture, make a collage or any other way you think of. Be creative! I look forward to seeing your pictures!

ATTENTION! The marvellous Mrs Greenwell has spent a long time putting together a virtual ukulele club which you can access on the music web page, here is a link:

https://www.netherthongprimary.co.uk/curriculum-1/curriculum-pages/musc

Here is the Lego challenge for today! Remember to email us your creations! If you don't have Lego, don't worry any construction material will do …

Don't forget to keep sending in your pictures for Friday's gallery. I haven't heard from some people just yet so it would be lovely to hear from you!

See you tomorrow, metaphorically anyway!
