What a busy week.

We have started our Christmas play rehearsals this week.

We have done our termly phonics assessment and all children are progressing at their own pace which is good.

Please spend time practicing reading with your child at home at least 3 times a week. It only takes 5 minutes to read a ditty or blend or one story in the book.

The difference it can make for your child not only with progression but confidence is enormous. We can't listen to your child every day in school as that's all we would do but you have this gift to do at home.

Please look on teams at the videos to show you how to read with your child.

Dress REHEARSAL 13th December. Please could we have the outfits into school in a named bag before this date.

Any problems we have a few in school you can borrow.

In number work we have been looking at properties of 3D shapes inside and outside of school.

In science we have been looking at different materials and naming a few common ones such as

PLASTIC METAL GLASS WOOD PAPER CARDBOARD

We have also talked about recycling and why it is so important for looking after our planet.

More will be done about this important topic over the year.

Here are a few highlights.

Decorating our tree.

Looking at materials and shapes.

Redesigning the recycling sign.

Thank you for your support at home.

This week we have been learning about the jobs that Police Officers do.

Yes, they keep us safe and protect us but they also go to road traffic accident and come into school to talk to children.

In number work we have been working on decomposition of 4 and 5. All the number facts to make these numbers. We need to know this without aids to achieve our Good Level of Development.

We made hand cuffs, emergency vehicles and played Cops and Robbers  in the woods.

We are performing our Dress Reversal for our Christmas play on Thursday 12th December. Please make sure you have a costume in a named bag before this date.

Any problems please come and see us as we have a few in school.

Phonics we are continuing our rhyming string and starting to write a simple sentence with some children.

Every child learns at a different page so please don't worry if your child in on a different reading book to other children.

Education is a Marathon not a Sprint.

Hello,

What a cold week we had. The children had much delight on Monday morning. We had a little play in the snow but some quickly realised why we wear gloves and hats in the winter months and why its important that we learn to zip up own own coat (a bit of homework if they can't do this, thank you).

In math's work we have been comparing 4 and 5 and working out all the number facts for these amounts using our subitising skills.

Our topic this week was Vets, doctors and nurses. People who help us in our community. We looked in a first aid kit and saw what was in and what it was used for. We also had a go at using the bandages on each other.

Thank you for the baking money we are well on the way with flap jacks.

Here are a few highlights

Thank you for your support at home.

Next week we are looking at the job a police officer does.

Please check in your child's bag for a Christmas play letter with your child's line the are to say and their costume.

We have some in school they can borrow.

Kind Regards,

Mrs Oddy and the Team

Upside down fire engines.

Hello,

Our new topic this half term is called.

'People who help us in our community'.

If you have a job in the community  we would like to invite you into school for a short talk to the children in our class. This visit into school helps the children to connect with their community other than' us'  teachers and they really enjoy their Mum or Dad or Grandparents coming into school.

Topic s we are covering : Fire Fighters

Dentists / Optometrist

Vets

Police

Doctors/Nurses

Postal workers/ Refuse collectors

This week we are learning about subitising small amounts, keeping safe around fire, the Hindu festival of Diwali.

Reading books and sheets will be changed on a Monday. Please keep them in your child bag at all ties so we can read with them in school.

On that note we would love a few volunteers to read with our children on a afternoon. This is a lovely time spent one to one and over the weeks seeing progression. If you or know someone who can spend an hour on an afternoon Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday that would be amazing and would benefit your child. Please ask around as there is only two of us in the class with 30 children.

Here are a few highlights.

Using subitising skills

Making sparklers

Diwali Lamps

Please see 'Teams' for pre learning and videos of sounds we have done this week..
