Its going to be sunny day so I have set a Sunflower Van Gogh Art activity later but first:

NUMBER – Counting back

You will need objects and a number track.

Key Vocab – count back, how many are left over?

Count backward from 20. Stop and say what number come next 20,19,18..?

Count out 10 objects.

Cover the last 4. How many are left? (6)

Show 7 objects. Say there were 10 in total so how many do I have?(3)

Repeat with different numbers.

We can count back on the number track to see how many are left.

Put your finger on 10 count back 4 land on 6.

Show how this can be done on their fingers.

Now have a go at using a real situation where things are taken away.

There are 8 chocolate bars in the pack…..

There are 6/12/15 eggs in the box……

You have 20p and you spend 5……

TOPIC – Van Gogh

Here is something from Miss H, 

Hello everyone, we are going to spread a smile!

Mrs Barker introduced something to us called 'Padlet' which is like a virtual piece of paper that we can all get to and write on! If you click on the link below, you will be sent to a new window. Hopefully, you will see that I have started us off by adding a couple of posts to make you smile! If you double click on the piece of paper or click the 'plus' button, you can begin typing. In the title part, I'd like you to put your name, then we can see who has contributed. You need to write your message to everyone then press the enter button. You can add images or doodles that you can draw by pressing on the ellipsis (...). I am very much looking forward to your posts to make me and others smile! Here is a link to our Padlet:

You can make up your own just make sure your child is not just copying your sentence they are working it out themselves.

 

 

 

 Number – Doubles

Key Vocab-double, count on, add

  • Use pairs of socks , gloves shoes to count on in twos.
  • Use some example. One sandwich has two slices of bread. How many slices do we need for 5 sandwiches? 4,2,6 etc…
  • There are 4 cakes in a packet we have 2 packets how many all together?
  • Find the doubles in a set of dominos.

How look at halves.

How can we find half of 12? Remind them of cutting an apple in half. How many parts is a half? 2

So we put the 12 objects into 2 piles. We have halved them.

Repeat with other numbers.

Record this in your own way. Pictorial or use real objects.

Half of 12 is 6

6 is half

TOPIC-  Instructions for planting

If available have a look at the   How to grow a sunflower big book   

Tell you child that instruction are not a story, they are a set of bossy sentences?

e.g

  1. Put dirt in a pot.
  2. Stick finger in the dirt for seed to go.
  3. Pat dirt flat.
  4. Water the seed.

Can you write your own set of instruction for planting a seed into your little booklets. Just a couple today and you can finish them off tomorrow if its too much. Four or five will do.

You can illustrate sentences with a picture.

Good morning!

Thank-you to all those who sent a photo in in your school uniform. It was great to see everyone looking so smart.

Today is a special day for me as it's my birthday. I may be right in thinking it's Georgia's too?

NUMBER – This week we are counting on and counting back.

Key Vocab – count on, total, altogether, how many now?

You will need pasta shapes, pots an a number track to 20 and a dice.

-Show a number card and your child has to do that many claps but try not to count out loud. Repeat with other numbers.

- Show your child three objects. What is the total number of objects I have here?

Discuss total means how many there are all together.

How many are in the first pot already(count)? (6)

And add on these extra 3. ………..7,8,9

Add the extra 3 one at a time to the pot. If necessary empty out all the pasta put them in a line and add them all together.

repeat with other pairs of numbers.

We are going to use a number track to help us count on.

We need a frog/rabbit/toy to hop.

Start on 7 roll the dice.

4 we need to hop to 4 to find the total of 7 add on 4. Encourage the children to count on in their heads first. Use the toy to show if they got the answer right.

We say 7 add 4 is 11. Write the number sentence. 7+4=11

Say the number sentence together.

Repeat with other starting numbers and roll the dice.

A family fun card games to play.

Patience and  Sevens

 

Aim

The aim of patience is to make four piles of cards, one for each suit, sorted into order by the numbers on the cards.

Set up

  • Shuffle the pack and mix the cards up
  • Place seven cards face-down in a line, next to each other
  • Turn up the card on the left
  • Place six cards on top of the six that are already face down
  • Turn up the left card of the second row
  • Repeat this until you only put one card down, and turn this up
  • Place the deck to one side

How to play

  • Place any aces in the bottom row into one of four foundation piles above the rows.
  • Turn over the top card of the deck.
  • Attempt to place the card in an appropriate spot.
    • Cards must switch between red and black.
    • Cards must be in order (K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, A).
  • The goal is to move all cards into the foundation piles.
    • Foundation piles must all be the same suit (spades, clubs, hearts, diamonds).
    • Foundation piles must be in order (A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K).
    • You can move an appropriate card to the foundation piles at any time.

TOPIC

Make a fruit salad for lunch or tea with what you have available.

Talk about and look at the seeds in the fruit.

You might want to plant the seeds of an apple or orange and see if they will grow. Remembering what a seed need to grow?
