Your child needs to use the special names e.g It is 3rd.
MUSIC
Either make something into a drum or just get a pan and wooden spoon or two sticks from the garden to bang together or make a shaker. It's your choice and try to keep the beat to the song.
Listen to the song for Handa's surprise. (I hope it works for you!)
I have attached the words for you to sing along.
If this link does not work for the music just make up your own melody to the words and drum along.
Handa Handa walk to see Akeyo..
Break.
Here is the playscript for you to act out the story of Handa. You can act this out and sing as you go.
The play script of The Story of Handa's Surprise.
Break
Craft
Here are a few ideas you might like to try.
Painting with something other than a paint brush.
If you have a paper plate this would be ideal or you could just cut out a ring from card.
If you don't have any of the above you can always use natural materials outside.
We should have been starting tennis sessions this term so if you take a ball outside in the garden and practice some throwing and catching and aiming games that would be great.
Thank- you

Reminder about Read Write Inc Phonics sessions on Monday to Friday.
admin on: Reception
Just a reminder about the free RWI phonics online sessions everyday Monday to Friday. A two week programme which will be repeated.
Set 1 -9.30 and again at 12.30 am
Set 2 -sounds 10 am and spelling 10.15 am and again at 1 pm
Most of our children are on set 2 sounds but need to occasionally revise the set 1 especially: ng nk th sh ch qu
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ
Most children now will be onto the green books. There are fiction and non-fiction. If these are too tricky stick to the red ditties for now until your child becomes confident. Remember it's not a race - we need to instill enjoyment in reading.
These books you can find on Oxford Owl. If greens are too easy go onto the pinks.
Thank you and have fun.

Welcome back to the Blogs from Netherthong Reception class.
I have been doing a lot thinking over the holidays (overthinking) and have decided to do a two day blog. This will take the pressure off you and me both.
If you don't manage one day or your child is just not in the mood it's ok. Wednesday will be a little shorter with more science and art activities so you are able to catch up or just take a breath.
If anyone has any ideas to add please email me. It's important to go with the children's interests.
I hope you are all well and have enjoyed the lovely weather. Everyone has up and down days but the most important thing is give yourself space to breathe and to be kind to yourself and others.
In our house we have been out every day walking, running or biking. I only go shopping once a week on my day off, Wednesday. I like to keep to a routine.
We have been busy playing games, baking and keeping fit.
My children also need some time on social media to chat to their friends as it is important for them to keep connected.
OK lets go!
If you could get the fruit associated with the story Handas surprise for this week that would be fantastic!
7 fruits or similar ones to the story.
"Banana, orange, tangerine, pineapple, mango, avocado, passion fruit I use an apple for a guava".
Don't worry what varieties you get as long as there is 7 in total to make the story real.
Here we go!
Monday 20th April
Start with the exercise.
GoNoodle/Joe Wicks/yoga or just a walk round the block.
If you didn't see the Historical book to fill in this is also a good start if you are able to print it off or just use the ideas on the sheets.
We have done this in my house but not all in a day!
Historical account of the time in isolation
Phonics/Reading
Reading a little every day is important. You can choose the best time to do this. Reading their own sentences, sentences in books you are reading together. Sentences or words round the home are all fantastic opportunities to read for meaning.
Recap on digraphs
ch sh th ng nk ay ee igh ow oo 00 ar or air ir ou oy - flash cards are the best way to learn these.
Have a go at this activity. I will be putting on one a day.
Literacy
It is important for the children to talk about their feelings and what is on their mind, things they have enjoyed or not.
They need to be able to talk in sentences holding the interest of the listener expanding in some detail what they are trying to say.
Ask them what they have enjoyed doing over the last few weeks. The may need prompting. Only a few ideas will be needed.
This will be a nice idea for them to do today as a gentle start back to the home schooling routine.
Then help your child write a few sentences or scribe for them and then they draw a picture of some of the things they did. Then read the sentences back. here are some examples:
I went on a walk in the wood. I planted some seeds in the garden.
I made some round buns. I found a bug in the grass. I can see the birds in the sky.
Number task - We are looking at ordering and and comparing numbers this week to 20
Vocab- order, first, next, after, before, smallest, largest, one, more, one, less, count, right.
Ask your child to fine the number 1-10/20 in order around the home.
e.g on pages in a book,a clock,a microwave, TV remote..............
They could make their own book and number the pages. (Ready to write their own recount of Handa's surprise.)
Make individual towers of bricks 1 2 3 4 ......put in order of height by counting the cubes. Predict how many cubes will be in the next tower?
If you have number cards 1-20 or 30-50 ect. Order these forwards and backwards and horizontal and vertical.
Well done.
Tuesday 21st April
Exercise. - Jo wicks/ Go Noodle/ Yoga
Phonics
Segment the words to hear the sounds.e.g b-a-th k-i-ng sh-e-ll. Check for good pencil control and letter formation.
Literacy
We are becoming familiar with the story of Handa's Surprise by Eileen Browne you can find the story on utube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyIV_xYi0as - Link
Handa's Surprise powerpoint. - this will help see the story slowly and its a fun powerpoint.
Can you make Handa's hair and body using natural materials?
Now describe her.
e.g Handa is a girl. She has brown skin. She has a pink dress. She has sandals on. She has long black hair.
The can us the word and to connect two sentences together but this is tricky as they need to remember more!
Read the sentences out to you.
Number
You will need 3 / 4 plastic cups. Add various amounts of pasta/buttons into the cups and see if your child can count accurately the amount in each cup and put them in order.
ext .. Can your child put in oder 3/4 non consecutive numbers? e.g 12 6 17 11
Look on mathseeds for extra work. Also number blocks ordering numbers.
Craft
Have a go at weaving.
This is just one idea, you can use anything including natural materials.
Have fun.
Thank-you for your support.
