Well done to William and his sister for raising a great amount for money for Cancer Research and doing their own run.

Some more photos!

Thursday 14th May – Fruit diary

It has been decided by some pupils in Y5 that they would like a 'UNIFORM DAY'

So tomorrow, Friday 15th, you can dress up in your uniform, if you would like and take a picture of yourself and then email it to us. We will make a collage out of them for next week.

EXERCISE

Go Noodle/Joe Wicks/ Yoga (cosmic Yoga) or just walk round the garden.

PHONICS  and Reading (Oxford owl ebooks available)

Handwriting: v w x z

Red words:  I, the, to, love no, go, all, small, tall, call, my, by, he, me, be, we, she, of, said, you, saw, how, was, they, some, come, are, water – New red word : one, two

Hold the sentence: The show is slow, or I can play in the snow.

 NUMBER

Start by ordering numbers to 20.

Hide 2 numbers and see if your child can spot which ones are missing?

On a blank number track pencil the numbers 1 and 10 only.

1

10

Without writing in the other numbers, ask the following questions;

Which numbers are in the middle of the number line?

-5/6

Circle the bank space 4.

Ask which number will be here?

How will you find this out?

Rub out 1 and 10 and circle where 6 would be. Ask the question which number would go here?

Talk about where 4 was and how 5 comes next then 6.

Point to the space for 8 which number belongs here?

If this is being understood by your child now make a blank number track to 20 and circle 3 spaces.

Challenge the children to write down their 3 guesses of these numbers.

How did they work it out and repeat.

On the blank number track they could find their age, the number in their family , age of dog etc to make it real.

Record these numbers on the track.

If they are enjoy the challenge do this with larger numbers working out what number come next to and above and below a number. Only give them the red number.

e.g         45

    54     55  56

             65

TOPIC – Food diary

Look at the Artist Giuseppe Arcimboldoand work. He has used fruit and vegetable to make sculpture faces.

-Giuseppe-Arcimboldo-

Try and imitate these in your own way.

It will be fun to see the results.

Thank-you again!

Next week we will be writing instructions for planting seeds and the book 'Going on a Bear Hunt' by Michael Rosen.

Hope to see you in your uniforms tomorrow!

Take care,

Mrs Oddy

Rhubarb crumble! Yum Yum my favourite.

Well done! to all those of you who ran yesterday for our school Cancer Research Charity we raised over £1000.

What a fantastic amount we raised for such a worthy and important cause.

At school myself and Mrs Roberts ran an hour each with Mrs Barker and the last 15 mins all the children in school joined in too.

Florence and her brother did a family 5K.

Maxwell has done his own fundraising challenges, raising money for UNICEF.

Here we go!

Wednesday 13th May

Play 'guess my number'(1-20 or whatever numbers are appropriate for your child).

Pick a number and don’t show your child. Your child has to ask questions to find out what number you are holding.

It is more than 10?

Is it less than 8?

Is it an even number?

Is it more than 15?

Swap over.

Quiz

Count in 2’s, 5’s or 10’s. Show that this is a good way of counting large numbers of objects by grouping them.

e.g pasta shapes, buttons, teddies, people in our class!

TOPIC – Science Float or sink

https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/messy-goes-to-okido-why-do-things-sink-and-float

Collect a selection of objects up to a maximum of 10.

Have a go at writing a table.

Object V float or sink?

Complete a table.

Why do you think some objects float and some sink?

Do all small objects float?

Talk about mass. If an object has a lot of mass it is heavy. Do all heavy objects sink?

What can you do to make an object float that sinks?

Thank - you for your continued support!

Sleep

Hold the sentence: I can see the seeds.

You can make up your own just make sure your child is not just copying your sentence they are working it out themselves.

e.g The cart has two wheels.

Number -

Counting forwards and backwards. Sing days of the week and months of the year if you can remember these.

You need groups of objects today up to 20.

Talk about a good estimate. If it is nearly right it is a good estimate.

We can think in our head what 5 or 10 looks like.

Put the objects into piles and label them.

less than 10                     less than 20                   between 10 and 20

Then count to see what is a good estimate.

Now put 10 pasta shapes in a tub and shake them. Secretly add more - can your child make a guess at the amount in the tub? More or less? Then a number removing or adding items.

This can be played outside estimating number of sheep in the field, birds, flowers etc.

TOPIC- Food diary

Today is the Cancer Research running/exercise challenge.

Here is a power point of information all about how to be healthy.

Healthy Eating and Living

Get out into your gardens or do a big walk thinking of helping other people who are less fortunate then yourself. This might be a good time to talk to your child about worries that they may have and reassure them that they are safe with you and if they do get ill that we have our amazing NHS to look after us all and help us to get better.

GOOD LUCK!

I will be running with Mrs Barker in the school grounds.

Mrs Oddy

Race for Life

admin on: Reception

So the Netherthong Race for Life is tomorrow at 1pm! I know so many of you have organised your own event in your gardens and surrounding areas. We have had so much support through the fundraising link, we are now at around 75% of our £1000 target. Please keep sharing this link so that we can reach our goal.

If you take any photos or videos of your event, please email them to class2@netherthongprimary.co.uk  If you send in your pictures, we will automatically presume you give us permission to use on the website and other sites associated with Cancer Research. I hope to put some kind of montage together when I recover from running around the playground! This will be a wonderful whole school collaboration at a time when we can’t be together. Good luck – knowing that you are all there will spur me on, I’m sure!

Happy running!

Mrs Barker
