What a great half term. Well done everybody.
Downing Street has come to Netherthong! The future looks rosy! This week we have been enjoying learning all about the government. We held a debate and then wrote a manifesto as if they would like to be Prime Minister (I think a few would like to be!), after reading the beginning of the Accidental Prime Minister. The children discussed what would be important. They decided that education, the environment and future technologies would be important, along with support for people in need and the elderly.
In Maths, we have been learning about 3D shape. We have photographed then, tried to draw them, and ended up creating some 3D models of our own. Well done.
We were very fortunate in Science, to be able to use the data logger. We measure the amount of light using the measurement known as lux. Well done all the Scientists out there!
We have been continuing with our weaving too. We will complete these after half term.
In Geography, we created maps of the Netherthong grounds. We really we really enjoyed being outside and peacefully drawing the grounds.

This week we have enjoyed so many different aspects of our learning.
In Maths this week, we looked at division, we have divided different numbers and drawing number lines to help us. For example, 60 divided by 3.
In Science, we are investigating light and how shadows are formed. The sun shines and the light reflects onto the ground, we drew around our shadows in the playground using chalk. We returned to the site some time later to see that the shadows cast by the sun had changed position so we drew around ourselves again to show this. We also completed an investigation on shadows using torches. We measured the distance of the light source from an object and measured its shadow.
Stephen Mulhern visited us down the wavelengths this week! Wow!! He is an author who writes about a boy called Max Magic. As you can imagine Max performs different tricks. He did a newspaper trick and it was interesting to discover how he created it.
In Literacy this week, we are continuing to read the Accidental Prime Minister, We are writing a descriptive story about our own adventure of becoming the prime minister.
In PE, we had our PE coach and we started working out and using circuits to increase our knowledge of Boxercise! We got to wear boxing gloves and pads. We took it in turns to move around the different circuit activities. It was really good fun! And utterly shattering!
We are continuing our weavings and thoroughly enjoying creating them. In Forest some children started some paper weavings that we will weave natural grasses into.
Our favourite dinner this week was the beef burger. This is a new choice for us!

Week ending 12.5.23

It’s been another short week this week so we have worked extra hard to make up for it!
In Maths this week, we looked at fractions. We have learnt to put objects into groups to work out what three fifths might look like or two quarters is the same as half of eight.
In Science, we looked at translucent, transparent and opaque forms of light. We got different objects and materials and shone a torch next to it. If it was transparent, we could easily see the light, we could see the light less clearly and not at all for the opaque materials.
In Literacy this week, we are starting to learn about how to have a debate. The topic was ‘To be a Viking or not – living in Viking times’. We got into groups and decided if we were for or against. We presented our arguments at first on paper and then we presented our points to the whole class.
In Geography we discussed the different aspects of human features of Blackpool. For example, the Blackpool tower is enjoyed by people dancing, going to the roof top gardens and an aquarium. We talked about the three piers (the only three in the country), trams, the promenade, hotels, the Pleasure beach and lots of other features.
We have started a new book this week – Accidental Prime Minister. It’s been an exciting start to the story.
We have learnt a new skill- weaving using a piece of card and wool. We loved this and have been amazed how fantastic our pieces are looking so far.
In PE we had our PE coach and we continued our boxercise sessions looking at including playing games as part of the session to improve our punching skills. We had our session outside this week which was fun!
Our favourite dinner this week was the salmon pasta bake. This is one of our favourites on a Friday!

Blog for week ending 5.5.23

In literacy this week we wrote a letter to the King, to invite him to Blackpool. We told him about all of the things he could do if he visited - Blackpool Tower, the Pleasure beach, arcades and eat yummy fish and chips.
We had another session of boxercise this week. We learnt an upper cut and a rear upper cut. We played a version of musical chairs using our boxing gloves and pads.
We were ordering fractions in Maths. Some children found it a little tricky and some found it easier.
On Tuesday, we went outside with Mrs Pearce and Mrs Robb. We were in the forest. We made crowns and bunting using natural materials. We also made portraits of ourselves using items from nature.
In Science, we were learning about the things that were good and bad about the sun. We thought about the hero's and villains with the sun, for example it makes us feel happy, but can cause skin problems.
We are writing a double page spread about the King Coronation. We have included lots of facts, pictures and illustrations. Miss Watkin sis looking forward to reading them.
We are having a celebration in school for the Kings coronation with a Proms in the playground. Each year group will sing a song from every decade the King has been alive. We held a democratic vote in class 3 to decide on a song to sing from the 1980's. This was a tough decision because there are so many good songs from that decade!. When we voted there was a tie so we had to vote again for the final decision to be made. We have now learnt our song - Celebration by Kool and the Gang. We have really enjoyed singing it., and dancing along too.
