Morning all,
Time sure is flying, isn't it? Wow!
I'm going back into school this morning and I'm pretty excited about it. If you are on your family walk today, please do knock on the office window, as I might just be able to come outside and say hello. I saw Oli yesterday, outside doing some gardening with his mum and I spoke to Jack on the phone - it really made my day! I am really missing all of you so much!
Why shouldn't you trust atoms? Because they make up everything!
Some AMAZING flags to show you this morning - just incredible - really well done!

Aren't they amazing? Lots of thought (and fun) went into those - thank you parents/grandparents/brothers and sisters for helping out.

Ukulele : Mrs Greenwell has spent quite a bit of time putting together some video lessons for those of you who are in the club. Please go to: https://www.netherthongprimary.co.uk/curriculum-1/curriculum-pages/musc
Reading: Don't forget the 30 minutes, everyone AT LEAST!
Chess: I hope you are all still enjoying this? I am at level Bishop3 on the training and am really enjoying the videos. I would love to play against one of you and am investigating this.
English/Topic: I would like you to investigate someone famous from the country you are doing your topic on. This could be a politician, a revolutionary, a singer, a sportsman, ANYONE who is famous in that country. Then I would like you to write a report about them - this will be non-chronological and will include some fascinating facts, as well as some things that we would all NEED to know about them. Include some photos please and I'll show the best ones I get.
Some of your mysterious stories about a family member were brilliant! Here are a few:
Darcey
Georgie
Jack
Oli
Now, at this point, I seem to be having some technical glitches and things keep crashing, so I'm going to wrap up the blog, without adding any more photos; don't worry - there will be more later (hopefully!).
Maths: Checking Calculations - VERY IMPORTANT skills to have. Read the explanation carefully.
Speed Tables today everyone - here they are:
Stay safe and, hopefully, I'll be back to you later. Just remember that 5/4 of people think they are poor at fractions!

Morning all!
Mr Biscuit is starting to walk on four paws a bit, so we locked the cat flap from one side to let him have run of the house last night, without being able to get out. Obviously, then the local stray (Oreo) got in, but couldn't get out again. This caused quite a kerfuffle at 4am, I can tell you, so I've been up a while fixing the cat flap and we've just managed to get him to swallow a tablet the size of a small car (slight exaggeration).
Anyway... it looks like ANOTHER lovely day out there! So, let's look at some photos because I'm happy to report that lots of you are still reading! Excellent. I began a new book last night - Hidden, by Paul Doiron. I love these books - they are a series about a game warden, called Mike Bowditch, who lives in the state of Maine. The stories really transport me away to another place and I get lost in the exciting wilderness and drama.
Georgie is reading the Land of Roar and can't put it down!
It's so great to have a book you can't put down. Here are more readers...
I think Jack is winning for the weirdest reading style!
So... at least 30 minutes please today. Thank you for the photos - keep them coming. Especially those of you who we still haven't seen. I'll be making phone calls from tomorrow to make sure you are all getting these blogs, are accessing the work and doing ok.
English today - I would like you to choose a family member, who is 'locked-down' with you and write a short story about something mysterious that they have started to do since the lock down, that they have never done before. This might be something as simple as reading a book, or planting seeds, but I'd like you to imagine another, more fantastic reason for this new habit. Give a full description of the person and a prediction of what will happen once we are all 'let free' again. I'll look forward to reading some of these.
Here are some pieces of creative writing from yesterday...

Max
Very good, eh? Well done everyone.
Maths - Today we go back to BIDMAS/BODMAS/PIDMAS (depending on which version you prefer). I don't mind which section you do, but you should ALL be happy with section B and, if you can, I'd like you to try section C.
Topic/Art - People seem to be really enjoying this, so thank you for the feedback. I know that Reuben said it was the highlight of his day, so that's fantastic! I wasn't going to continue with it today, but... Now I'd like you to create the flag. I know some of you have already drawn it, but I want you to be more creative. What can you make it out of? Just HOW BIG can you make it? Did you ever watch Art Attack? Watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzcZVXWRmZE It might give you some ideas. I CAN'T WAIT for the photos!
Chess - I love, love, LOVE how you are getting into this. I have now created my own user: MrCruedo - please challenge me to a game by going into Friends and searching for my username. Good luck!
Reading Comprehension - Easter theme: Chocolate on page 10 of the Schofield and Sims booklet. Answers tomorrow.
Max is doing something VERY COOL. Have you ever wanted to be a Marine Biologist? Check out: https://www.sixsenses.com/en/at-home-with-six-senses/become-a-marine-biologist-at-home
He's also riding a tandom... so be careful on the roads, that's all I'm saying...
Don't forget Joe Wick - keep getting the exercise and the fresh air.
Why can't you hear a pterodactyl go to the toilet? Because the p is silent! Sorry...
Here are some more of your photos. Stay safe and have a lovely day everyone.
Mr C
Amy made buns...
more buns...
and more!
Jack chilling.
Caitie has sea monkeys... I know!
Finally, I'll ask you... if you see a robbery at an Apple Store... does that make you an iWitness?
That's it for me :)

Tuesday 21st April

Good Morning Year 6,
Remember when we used to do creative writing on a Tuesday morning? Wow, that seems a long time ago, doesn't it? Well today, we are going to start with that, so here's your picture:
At the moment, we have a poorly cat; Mr Biscuit returned from one of his night-time manoeuvres with a limp and is reluctant to put any weight on one of his front paws. Three visits to the vet later, we are taking it in turns to sleep in the spare room (with no furniture, other than a bed), so that we can restrict his movements. Mrs Moran has lent us Alfie's (her dog, not Mr Moran) large cage and we have been reduced to the life of prison wardens, as we take him outside for monitored walks around the vegetable patch and various mole hills that seem to be appearing. Mr Biscuit is NOT a happy boy. So, therefore, neither are we.
My friend keeps saying, "Cheer up, man. You know, you could be stuck, underground in a hole full of water!" I know he means WELL. (That was a joke).
Anyway... LOADS of photos to share today. So, before we get on with further work -
Thank you to you four for your weird reading photos; good work! Don't forget everyone - 30 minutes a day and send photographic evidence. Thank you also for telling me what you are reading. Darcey is reading The Wild Folk, by Sylvia V. Lindsteadt. Rio is reading Divine Madness by Robert Muchamore. Guy is also powering his way through all the Robert Muchamore books. Both of these two are enjoying the Cherub series; I'm sure Mrs Johnson is very proud of you! Keep it up - all of you.
Maths today is Geometry Review 4. If any of you then WANT to try the Geometry challenges over the page, go for it - some are harder than others: be warned! Only do these if you are up for the extra.
Languages - Duolingo. Well done to those of you who are still doing this. I know that Miss Kelly's son, John, is still doing this daily. Today is my 232nd consecutive day! At 250 you get to level 10 and a gold badge... I also recommend Memrise. If you subscribed to the free children's accounts at Rosetta Stone, please can you email and let me know what you think? Thank you.
Topic, day 2. Going back to your American country of choice, I would now like to know: A) Which countries border it? B) What is the tallest mountain in your country? C) What is the longest river? D) Who is the current ruler? Is she/he a King? A President? E) What is the life expectancy? Is it different for men and women?
I asked some posing questions yesterday - just for fun really, but Alex answered them all, so here they are:
Don't forget the usual exercise - Joe Wicks, etc.
While I am typing away, Biscuit has come to say hello...
And, on that note, I shall depart. Thanks again to all of you, who are getting in touch. There are still some names on my list - please, if you haven't been in contact, check in. Stay safe everyone.
Mr C
Liberty (apt), by Darcey.
Biscuits (again, apt), by Eva - not made out of lego.
Nanoblock, by Max (Happy birthday, Max).
Manatee, by Caitie.
Ironing, by Oli?
Climbing (escaping?) by Guy and his dad.
Drumming (online), by Oli.
Working hard, by Guy (AWESOME!)
And finally... you'll like this one... I think it's one of my favourite of the year so far...
I'm not even going to title it - I thought about it being the Creative Writing photo for a moment.
Ooh! Thanks for the chesskid comments Darcey and Rio - I'm glad you are enjoying it. Please carry on. Can you play each other?
Seeya!

Good Morning Year 6 and welcome back to home learning.
Put the chocolate away and have a hunt for your maths book and pencil.
The first thing that I want you to do is go on www.chesskid.com and register an account. I know that some of you love playing chess, but even if you don't, this is a superb website as it teaches you chess! There was an article in the Sunday papers yesterday, that Mrs J spotted - with her eagle eyes - ChessKid is offering a million free places and there are competitions to enter - so what have you got to lose. Chess is now, officially, part of the school day.
Reading. I read a fantastic book in the last two weeks, called Augustown, by Kei Millar, based in Jamaica. It's not appropriate for your age unfortunately, but I'd recommend it to all of your parents. I'm now reading Vermilion Drift, by William Kent Krueger. Today, I'd like you to get back into the reading (hopefully you never stopped) and I'd like to get some photos of you reading in strange places. 30 mins at least!
Maths is a nice Geometry Review 3 - to get you back into the swing of things.
I have set Mathletics to start up again from this morning. I am checking into who is doing this...
PE - the usual Joe Wicks at 9am and try to get back into the press-up/sit-up regime. Can you still do 10 of each? I'm up to 35 now.
Topic: this is an ongoing piece of work, but I'd like you to select a country in the Americas and begin researching it. Today, I'd like you to find the capital city, the largest city (these could be two different places), the language, the religion and the currency used. Write these down. Try to think about your selection... are there any countries that you know nothing about? Have you heard of Belize? Where is Tegucigalpa the capital of? Which country uses Bolivianos as currency? What about the Gourde? Where do they speak Dutch?
Did you know that a slice of pie is $2.50 in Jamaica and $3 in the Bahamas?
These are the pie rates of the Caribbean!
Sorry!
Anyway... Caitie and Alex have both been washing cars to help out at home - I hope you've all been getting involved. There are still some of you I've not heard from, I'll be giving you a phone call this week, so get in touch and let me know that all is well.
I've ordered a chicken and an egg from Amazon... I'll let you know...
Have a great day.
Mr C
