Well what an exciting night I had last night! We decided to stay up late and watch the Starlink Satellites moving across the night sky. As an extra treat, we got to see a shooting star (Sophie's first so she was very pleased).

I have also discovered Geocaching - using maps and clues to search for hidden 'treasure' boxes. We found our first yesterday on our daily walk around our village (making sure we sanitised our hands before and after) and we are now eager to find our next one.

Have you done anything for the first time over the last few weeks? I'd love to hear if you have - I might just steal some of your ideas!

Here are today's suggested activities:

English:

Hopefully, you have found out lots of interesting facts about Sir David Attenborough. Today we are going to use them to make a start on a biography.

What is a biography?

  • Biographical writing is about someone else's life. It is about a real person but written by someone else.
  • A biography highlights the key events that have happened in their life, sometimes talking about their childhood.
  • A biography can be written about someone who is dead or alive.

Today I would like you to write the introduction. Your introduction is very important if you want to grab the reader's attention. Try and include this information:

  • Who is the person? Full name.
  • What is he famous for?
  • When and how did he become famous? Keep this short as we will add more detail later.
  • Why is he famous today?

When you have written your introduction, read it aloud to someone. Does it grab their attention? Do they want to know more?

Maths:

Here is a grid to help you remember the values of roman numerals.

Can you make me some calculations to solve using roman numerals? You can either write them down or get creative using sticks, straws, pencil crayons or even your body! Email me your creations and i'll try my best to solve them (you'll need an answer sheet to check whether i'm correct or not).

Music:

As we are going 'wild' this half term can you imagine yourself in the middle of a jungle? Use the following link to hear for yourself what it would sound like (you don't need to listen to it all - there's 11 hours of jungle sounds!)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE_jOCqKE3w

Find things around your house to shake, tap, rustle or scrape to make the sounds of the jungle. It would be great if you could record your music and play it back so you could listen.

Have a lovely day. Missing you all.

Love from the year 4 team.

Good morning Class 4!

I hope you have all been enjoying this beautiful sunshine and have had a lovely Easter. I am missing you all terribly and wish that I could be standing in front of you today. For now we will continue with the blog instead.

I would love to hear about some of the things that you have been getting up to - send an email if you can.

This half term our topic is called 'Wild' and we will be setting you lots of tasks that come under this heading.

English:

Today I would like you to research the wonderful Sir David Attenborough. I would like you to jot down lots of facts about him and try and organise them under these different headings:

  • Early life (interesting facts about his childhood)
  • Early career (facts and stories about his first jobs and successes)
  • Things he is known best for
  • Family life
  • Extra interesting facts

Later in the week we will be writing a biography about him so the more information you can find, the better. Remember, when researching please do not just copy out large paragraphs from the internet; read the information and find the important bits!

Maths:

Roman numerals today! Have a go at the following...

Science:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/science-ks1-ks2-ivys-plant-workshop-grouping-living-things/zfjxcqt

Follow the link above and watch the video about how to group living things.

Make a list of the first 10 animals that pop into your head (you could draw them or write down their names). Now, can you group these animals? First group them just by their physical appearance (number of legs, wings, fur, shell etc) then group them using some of the words from the video (reptiles, mammals, vertebrate, invertebrate, amphibian etc).
Could you present your groups in an imaginative way? I'd love to see your finished work!

Have a wonderful day.

Love from the year 4 team x

Museums! 14.4.2020

admin on: Class 4

Hi All,

We hope that you have all managed to have an amazing Easter and had lots of fun together.  We certainly have been enjoying the sunshine and the garden.  We have been on bike rides for our exercise each day, baked, played Lego, watched films and generally had fun as a family.

We wondered if you fancied a museum visit?  I know that you will not really be able to go to one, but how about a virtual tour?  If you follow the link below it will take you to the Egyptian gallery at the British Museum.

Ancient Egypt

See what you can find.  I spotted some Shabti, Sarcophagus, furniture and toys.  See what you can find.  It is amazing.  There are lots of other virtual tours that uou can go on if you have a little search.  Maybe visit the National National Gallery and take in some wonderful art work.

The National Gallery

Enjoy your visits and let us know how you got on and what you saw!.

Take care and enjoy

Love Year 4 Team
