Australia Crisis

admin on: Class 3

15th January 2020

Both children and staff are very aware of what has been happening in Australia concerning the bushfires. The School Government have come up with a fundraising idea to raise money to help all the animals that have been burned or injured. The WWF-Australia say that it has been estimated that around 1.25 billion animals have been killed across Australia to date. This includes thousands of koalas and other iconic species such as kangaroos, wallabies, kookaburras, cockatoos and honeyeaters burnt alive, and many thousands more injured and homeless. For more information visit https://www.wwf.org.au/get-involved/bushfire-emergency#gs.rrws96.

As a school, we are planning to walk the equivalent of the distance from Sydney to Canberra, which is 288 km or as close to this as possible across next week. We will be collecting donations on Friday 24th where we will see if we can fill an outline of Australia.

We really would appreciate the support and keep your eyes peeled for updates on our school blog.

Thank you,

The School Government

Week ending 10th January 2020

admin on: Class 3

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break and that 2020 will be a very happy one! Thank you so very much for all your wonderful Christmas cards and gifts; you really are so very kind. Thank you!

This week we have been focusing on consolidating all our learning in maths on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and have practised applying our skills to problem solving. With this in mind, I have set 2 tasks on Mathletics; column addition and column subtraction. However, any additional practise of any of the skills highlighted above would be great.

I have decided to change the spelling homework from this week; we will be focusing on one spelling rule each week, but I will send home a spelling task to complete instead of a list of spellings (these don't need handing in). The spelling quiz will then focus on that rule. The tasks may be a little tricky at first so it would be best to look at these with your child each week. I will usually hand these out on a Friday. I will, however, be handing out this first week's on Monday. The spelling focus is 'words ending in 'le' eg simple, gentle etc

Any problems at all please just come and let me know.

Thanks so much

Mrs Matthews

Costumes! (9.12.19)

admin on: Class 3

Dear all!

Please find below some guidance regarding costumes for the Christmas production. We have discussed the costumes with the children and have pointed out that we do have some costumes available in school, but just wanted to ease any worries you may have.

Narrators and fans; the children simply need to wear dark clothing (black if possible)

Master of ceremonies; smart party clothes

Citizens in Bethlehem; the children will need to wear tunics above a plain t-shirt and leggings/tights if preferred. We do have quite a number of tunics so if you don't have anything suitable we will be able to provide one. The tunics will need a belt/rope to tie around the waist.

Angels; an angel costume would be great but we do have some if needed. White tights and some ballet shoes would help too.

Angel Gabriel; we do have a costume, unless you prefer your own

Cows; brown/black and white clothing. A cow mask will be provided if needed

Donkeys; grey clothing if available, eg grey t-shirt and black/grey leggings or joggers. Again, a donkey mask will be provided if needed.

Clerk; a shirt and tie and trousers.

Police; blue shirt and tie and dark trousers. A police uniform would be fabulous if you happen to have one!! No worries if not; blue will be great.

Joseph; we will provide a tunic and belt if required.

Star; we do have a star!

Please bring any costumes you have into school at some point this week or Monday next week and we can then see which items we will need to provide for you. Please do not worry at all if you have difficulty as we will provide costumes wherever we possibly can. We'll take to the sewing machine if we need to!!

Please let me know if you have any worries at all or if I have missed anyone out!

Thanks again

Week ending 6th December

admin on: Class 3

Dear all!

Wow! What a busy day we had on Friday! The children really enjoyed investigating forces and were delighted to see how well their Christmas crackers were selling on our Year 3 stall at the Winter Fair! The children loved making them on Thursday for you! Thank you so much for joining us at the fair and supporting school so well. We were delighted to see so many people there!

Here are a few photos of the children making the crackers and conducting their Science investigation on Friday!

Spellings homework;

So sorry these spellings are a little late; Friday afternoon was exceptionally busy (as you can imagine!!).

volcano

tornado

hurricane

flood

earthquake

tsunami

natural

disaster

erupts

lava

We are focusing on natural disasters this week and next (as well as after the Christmas holidays too). Please could you try a little research at home too using non-fiction texts or the internet and bring your findings into class for us to share.

If you have one available, please also bring a small empty plastic water bottle in order to help us make volcano eruptions!!

Thank you so much

Mrs Matthews

Tuesday 3rd December

admin on: Class 3

Good morning!

As you'll be aware I decided not to send home spellings this last week but have asked the children to keep reviewing the spellings they have already been working on in order to consolidate their learning so far. Any practice with the 'common exception word' lists I gave you at parents evening would also be really beneficial.

We have been working exceptionally hard on reading and recording the time using both analogue and digital clocks so I have reassigned the 'time' activities on 'Mathletics'. Again, this will help consolidate your child's learning. Do keep asking your child to tell the time for you too!! Every bit helps!!

Thank you so much for all your support at home!
