Class 2
Homework Friday 31st January 2020
admin on: Class 2
We've had a fun-packed week in Y2, starting on Monday with our road safety training. Here are a few pics from the afternoon:
We'd had another busy afternoon today with 'creative Friday'. Here are some examples of the children's French work...
We have been asking for fruit and veg in the shop! Other groups made model kelpies, some did choosing activities whilst others played maths games, and made shortbread (if you haven't contributed to ingredient costs yet, please can you bring £1 this week).
Homework is all about fractions on Mathletics - we've loved our first steps into learning about fractions, we even attempted some really challenging problem solving activities today. Please ensure your child completes this as it will really consolidate the work we have done in class. Paper-based homework is on grammar, there are two sheets to complete. Thank you for supporting your children with their descriptive writing homework on Scotland, I really loved reading them this week.
Have a great weekend.

Happy Friday everyone, it's been another busy week in Y2. We started to write our Katie Morag information text and have been looking at adding/subtracting in Maths. Hopefully, the Mathletics problem is sorted and you can now see the homework I'm setting. Please keep encouraging your child to complete the activities - we have a lots of bronze certificate winners, some silver and one person nearly at gold! There's a lot of hard work going into homework, so thank you for your support. English is about describing a Scottish scene. Here's a sneak preview of this week's spellings:
tall hard
taller harder
tallest hardest
fast warm
faster warmer
fastest warmest
Thank you to everyone that donate to the Australia appeal. I'm sure we'll have a total early next week. Talking of next week, on Monday, the children will be having some road safety training.
Enjoy the two days!

Happy Friday everyone! It's been another busy week in Y2. We've been writing diaries in the character of Katie Morag and looking at odd/even numbers in maths. We also learned about rounding for the first time. In literacy, I've introduced the children to spelling planet. Each week we'll be looking at a spelling rule. Next week we're looking at the soft 'c' sound and here's a list of the words we'll be practising:
city
cell
exercise
mice
icy
cycle
fancy
notice
police
You might wish to talk to your child about them.
I've set Mathletics homework on odd/even numbers and there's also a maths sheet in homework books about greater/less than. I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Both children and staff are very aware of what has been happening in Australia concerning the bushfires. The School Government have come up with a fundraising idea to raise money to help all the animals that have been burned or injured. The WWF-Australia say that it has been estimated that around 1.25 billion animals have been killed across Australia to date. This includes thousands of koalas and other iconic species such as kangaroos, wallabies, kookaburras, cockatoos and honeyeaters burnt alive, and many thousands more injured and homeless. For more information visit https://www.wwf.org.au/get-involved/bushfire-emergency#gs.rrws96.
As a school, we are planning to walk the equivalent of the distance from Sydney to Canberra, which is 288 km or as close to this as possible across next week. We will be collecting donations on Friday 24th where we will see if we can fill an outline of Australia.
We really would appreciate the support and keep your eyes peeled for updates on our school blog.
Thank you,
The School Government
Homework 10/01/20
admin on: Class 2
Happy New Year everyone! I hope you have all had a wonderful break and spent some quality time together. It was great to see all the children back in school this week, and despite a few tears on Monday, we've successfully made it to Friday!
I wanted to say another huge thank you from myself, Miss Littler and Mrs Haley-Porteous for your wonderful Christmas cards and gifts - we really don't expect anything but equally appreciate all your kind gestures.
We have leaped into 2020 this week starting our new topic on 'Bonnie Scotland'. I hope you've had chance to read the Year 2 curriculum letter, which has an abundance of information about what we'll be learning this half term. You can download it here. It's worth printing this out and sticking it on the fridge for future reference. So this week we've looked at Katie Morag delivering the mail, Andy Scott's 'Kelpies', some children have made their shortbread and we've recapped on the continents, and countries that make up the UK. In maths we've been drawing graphs and looking at shape, so this is reflected in Mathletics homework. Mathletics still haven't solved the problem of assignments coming into view, so I've captured the homework here:
Paper-based homework is on adjectives.
Well done to everyone who joined in the reading bingo over the festive period, I had some lovely comments in reading records about this challenge. I will be giving out certificates on Monday in assembly.
Have an amazing weekend!
