Friday has come around again! The weeks do seem to go fast. I thought you’d like an update on my seeds and my progress on the 13 x 5km runs…
As you can hopefully see, the peas aren’t doing so bad and the salad leaves are coming along nicely. Last week I planted carrot seeds, leeks and onions, so I am watching those in anticipation. I’m quite proud of myself so far, normally everything green withers and dies pretty quickly! I’m using copper pipes and egg shells to try and keep the slugs and snails away. Plus I've completed my running challenge! Now it's going to be the Race for Life (I hope you've started planning yours!). I’ve loved all your pictures from this week, please email me anything you’d like on the gallery by lunchtime today to give me chance to put together a blog post for later today.
So the suggested schedule for today is as follows...
E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20 mins
Active time - Joe Wicks is showing a PE lesson at 9am or Go Noodle
Maths/Literacy - do this in batches of 20 mins each, build in breaks.
Creative Friday

LO: Add two amounts of money totalling less than £1 and find change.
- 41 + 36 =
- 50 – 28 =
- 7 + 32 + 8 =
- 24 ÷ 4 =
- Write seventy-seven in digits.
- Partition 89 into 10s and 1s.
Have a look at this stationery shop price list:
I’d like you to choose two items from the shop and then pay for them with £1. How much change would you receive? Here’s an example of your working…
You could set up your own shop with items from the kitchen cupboards, spend some time adding price labels and then invite people into your shop! Work out the total that they spend and then their change.

What words did you come up with on Wednesday? If you didn’t get chance to complete your own word bank, here’s mine, which you could use or you could magpie some ideas from it. So today I would like us to describe the picture using proper sentences using some of the words from yesterday. When you write your description, I would also like each of your sentences to start with a different letter of the alphabet. Here’s the alphabet, you might want to write it out on a piece of paper so you can cross a letter as you use it…
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
Now you could do this in order (Will and I wrote a story like this yesterday and it was challenging but fun!) or randomly. Here’s a few sentences to give you an idea and get you started (notice I have underlined the first letter of the sentence but you don’t have to do this!).
A man sits beside a cat, a pipe perched in his mouth. Beneath the cat, whose name is ‘Mozwer’, there are coils of old rope. Calmly, the sea laps into the stone, harbour wall. Distance calls of seagulls can be heard. Elegantly, the cat sits upright with its sleek, brown fur. Further into the distance, you can see a small island of rocks.
Hopefully, this makes sense! Towards the end of the alphabet it gets harder (there are not too many words beginning with ‘X’), so don’t use a letter that might spoil your description. This is just a good technique to ensure you don’t start all your sentences with the word ‘the’. I look forward to reading your results!
Creative Friday
I’ve set a 2Do in PurpleMash for you today, it is an art project about drawing a fish. You might like to have a look at this tutorial too:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4M9f0NE1tc
How are you doing with your camper van ideas? Are you ready to start creating yours? Are you making it out of Lego or boxes? I’d love to see some of your camper van creations.
Enjoy your Friday!
Stay safe!

Good morning my lovely little munchkins, Miss H here again!
This week in the mornings, my mum and I decided to start to learn some Yoga and Pilates. We felt things were getting on top of us a little with the current situation and everything that is going on so wondered what we could do. I remembered that Mrs Lindley always says how much better she feels after a yoga session, so we looked on YouTube and we couldn’t believe how much more relaxed we felt after doing this. Maybe you could try some yoga and let me know how you get on? Here is a quote that made my smile this morning from my new favourite book:
Here's the suggested timetable for today:
E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20mins (remember to record your reading in your reading record)
Active time - Joe Wicks is showing guiding a PE lesson at 9am (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ)
Don’t forget GoNoodle:

Through your life, you go through different stages from a baby to an adult. From the time you are born until you become an adult, you get taller. All the parts of your body grow. As you get taller, your legs and arms get longer and your hands and feet get bigger. Your body mostly grows in proportion so that you don’t end up with giant feet and tiny, short legs! Did you know that your feet are the same size as your forearm?! How could you test this and see for yourself?
I would like you to put the stages of human development in the correct order, then draw a picture for each one. Here is the sheet.

Why don’t you try and do something like we did for our bin men? Here is a template for you to make something for a key worker you know, whether that be a member of the NHS or supermarket worker. It will make them smile and realise how much we appreciate what they are doing for us! Here are the letters that we coloured in …

Throughout the summer term, like year 1, we would be learning tennis with the Thongsbridge Tennis Club coaches. This week we are going to look at developing your balance and coordination.
Balance a ball on the racquet while walking and jogging and then develop this by bouncing a ball like a basket ball using a racquet.
In tennis you need good hand-eye coordination. You can improve this by dropping the ball with the hand you do not write with (non-dominant hand) and hitting the ball after a bounce with the hand that you write with (dominant hand) to a partner to catch it. Then swap over.
If you don’t have the facilities to do tennis at home, you could always use your hand as a racquet.
Computing
On Purplemash, we are going to carry on looking at coding.
I have set the Turtle task. There are videos at the start of each challenge which explains each task. If you click the hint button, it will show you how to code each object. Any problem, just let me know. Good luck!
This hint button gives you little clues as to what the coding should look like.
Here is the Lego challenge for today! Remember to email me your creations! If you don’t have Lego, don’t worry any construction material will do …
Keep Smiling and stay safe!

Hello Class 2. How are you feeling today? I hope you are OK, I know that some days are harder than others and we sometimes find it hard to get motivated. I find writing a list helps me to get things done, and also rewarding myself after each activity that I do - with a nice cup of tea or 10 minutes reading a magazine. Have you got any lockdown tips for your classmates? Perhaps you could comment on this blog with some advice?
So the suggested schedule for today is as follows...
E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20 mins
Active time - Joe Wicks is showing a PE lesson at 9am or Go Noodle
Maths/Literacy - do this in batches of 20 mins each, build in breaks.

LO: Use coins to make amounts to at least £1
- 45 + 46 =
- 67 – 50 =
- 8 + 21 + 9 =
- 70 ÷ 10 =
- Write seventeen in digits.
- Partition 56 into 10s and 1s
OK, so today I’d like you to grab as much change (money) as you can! Please ask politely – don’t just pinch your adult’s spare change! Firstly, arrange your change into the different coins. Can you recognise all the different coins? Can you count how much change there is? How will you go about this? Do you need to write anything down or can you keep the numbers in your head? When you’ve used coins, remember to wash your hands really well. Now have a go at this:

What did you think to Mousehole? I would imagine it might be on your wish list of places to visit when we can! Now to the book, ‘The Mousehole Cat’ by Antonia Barber.
I’d like to introduce you to the main characters – Tom and his cat, Mowzer. Here’s the first picture in the book, it’s a beautiful illustration.
This week, I’d like you to describe this image in detail. Today we are going to create our own word bank to help us to do that. Use this word bank frame or create your own to start to think of words to use in your writing. Can you use a dictionary to find some new words that you’d like to use? Remember this is a brainstorming activity, so you might not use all your words when you come to write your description on Friday.
R.E.
I received many pictures of your RE work from last week. Your hands were beautiful with many lovely ideas about what you might want to pray for at this moment in time. This week, I’d like you to think about how Christians pray and what symbols help them to focus when they are praying. Have a chat about the question: do you need to go to church to pray? Have a look at this bbc clip about Christians and why they pray: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02q88sl Often people might use a candle to help them focus in prayer or meditation. With an adult, you might want to light a candle and at a safe distance, focus on the flame for a few minutes, think about the things you are grateful for at this time.
Here is the Lego challenge for the day. Remember to email us your creations! If you don't have Lego, don't worry any construction material will do. Good luck ...
Have you been in touch with me this week? If not, get emailing me at class2@netherthongprimary.co.uk or comment on the blog. I’ll be in touch if I don’t hear from you to see how you are.

Good morning Class 2! It was lovely being in school yesterday as I got so many emails from you all and I made a few phone calls too. I hope that when we look back on this time in a few years time, you will have some fond memories about all your adventures and the time you are having with your families. At 11am today there will be a minute's silence to remember NHS workers who have sadly died during the coronavirus outbreak, I hope you will partake.

LO: Add pairs of 2-digit numbers by partitioning or counting on.
- 35 + 24 =
- 65 – ? = 38
- 5 + 35 + 9 =
- 60 ÷ 10 =
- Write thirteen in digits.
- Partition 89 into 10s and 1s.
How did you get on with adding yesterday? Talk to your adult about how you would do: 31 + 46, can you also work out 46 + 31? What can you say about this? Today you could use this number generator to make your own number sentences to complete. The more practise you do, the better!
English
Hopefully, yesterday you had a good conversation about what a legend is. A legend is a story that has some truth in it and the Mousehole Cat is a retelling of the true story of Tom Bawcock which is commemorated every December in the village of Mousehole in Cornwall.
What I'd like you to do today is have a look at this website: https://www.cornwalls.co.uk/mousehole and find out about Mousehole. You could write a few sentences about what the village is like and try to locate it on a map. Now can you answer these questions:
- Mousehole is a picturesque fishing village on the south coast of Cornwall between which town and Land’s End?
- What are local cottages made out of?
- Which writer described Mousehole as the ‘loveliest’ village in England?
- Which lifeboat was sadly lost at sea in 1981?
- How would you describe the streets in Mousehole?
- Which cove can you walk to on the coastal path?
Music
Last week you were learning the song 'I do like to be beside the seaside'. This week can you use 2explore on PurpleMash to compose your own seaside tune. You could be inspired by the waves and the birds. Save your composition in your file for me to have a listen to!
PE
So last week you were making maps of your house or garden. How did that go? Can you now use your map to create a trail. You could place clues/letters/numbers in locations around your house or garden then draw them on the map. Ask someone to use the map to find all your hidden clues/letters/numbers. Can they then do the same for you?
Here is the Lego challenge for today! Remember to email us your creations! If you don't have Lego, don't worry any construction material will do …
Enjoy your work today. Remember to keep in touch, either by emailing me at class2@netherthongprimary.co.uk or by commenting on the blog. I’ll be in touch if I don’t hear from you to see how you are.

Happy Monday everyone. I hope you enjoyed the beautiful sunny weekend. Did you spot any birds? We saw lots in our garden including goldfinches, robins, blackbirds, blue-tits and we spent some time watching the crows annoying a huge buzzard circling the area! We can hear plenty of chicks nesting in the bushes too. Did any of you renew your Scout promise yesterday in honour of St George’s Day?
So the suggested schedule for today is as follows...
E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20 mins
Active time - Joe Wicks is showing a PE lesson at 9am or Go Noodle

LO: Add pairs of 2-digit numbers by partitioning or counting on
- 24 + 54 =
- 56 – ? = 27
- 22 + 7 + 18 =
- 18 ÷ 2 =
- Write seventeen in digits.
- Partition 55 into 10s and 1s
Do you remember using the partitioning method to add two numbers, like this:
32 + 24
= 30 + 20 + 2 + 4
= 50 + 6
= 56
Have a go at the number sentences in Part A and then move onto Part B if you have time. Remember to write out the steps as above if you need to.

Here are this week’s spellings:
sipping
putting
grabbing
stepping
jogging
slipping
getting
popping
chatting
As usual, you will find these on Spelling Shed and here’s the transcript from Spelling Planet.
Why not write some sentences using these words in your yellow book. Remember to really concentrate and use your best handwriting.
In English this week, we shall be using this book:
It is a beautiful story filled with amazing illustrations. In fact it’s a legend. Before we look at this story, talk with your adult about you they understand a legend to be. How does it differ from a myth? What other legends do you know or can find out about? There’s no need to write anything down if you don’t want to, just research and discuss!
History
I loved hearing about your conversation with your families surrounding seaside holidays. Look at this presentation together and discuss your thoughts. Now, have a look at these pictures cards to find clues about what seaside holidays were like in the past. Record your ideas on the mindmap.
