It's been a busy and strange week in Class 2  - the children have had to cope with different adults in class as well as Mrs Barker being beamed in from home! But they have done a superb job and they should all be very proud of themselves.

Maths has been all about problem solving this week, in fact why not have a go at this problem that the class had to solve on Wednesday...

In English, the children used their story maps from last week to retell the story of the Mousehole Cat. They produced some fantastic work, thinking about all the Year 2 ingredients; here are some examples from Olivia and Thomas...

On Wednesday we joined 32 other schools in the authority for a virtual author event organised by the fabulous bookshop 'Read'. In the live event with author Philip Reeve and illustrator Sarah McIntyre, well-known for their Legend of Kevin series of books, children heard readings from their new book Kevin and the Biscuit Bandit and took part in a drawing activity.

We've also been looking at 'how people pray' in our RE sessions. We designed our own prayer mats. Here are just a few...

We've all enjoyed running/walking the mile around the fields today and the weather stayed fine, which as excellent!

We've been working hard in maths all week, looking at subtracting and rehearsing our 'numberline' skills. This really helped with our problem solving on Wednesday.

I shared Tommy's writing last week and this week we finished our descriptions. Here's Emma's, which is also presented so beautifully - well done Emma.

This week we've started our new book - The Mousehole Cat. Although we have't actually read it - we've been concentrating on this picture:

Then we've written a description of the picture. I asked the children to really think about their sentence starts and we used the alphabet to try to encourage us to use a different start each time. Here's Tommy so far...

A peaceful breeze sways on the coast. Boats are floating along the sea. Calmly, the man is tying up a bag. Down on the beach, there are some seagulls. Expectantly, the cat is looking at the bumpy hills. Fluffy clouds are floating off through the blue sky. Gently, the breeze is moving the sea to push the boats. How does the wind flow through the air? Just then, the man sees a red canoe.

I hope that you agree that this is fabulous writing! Well done Tommy!

A huge welcome back to the Summer Term! I hope you've had a lovely Easter. This week we've started out new 'Seaside' topic with lots of talk of holidays and thinking about seaside words. We've been drawing in the style of Nick Sharratt and we even created a whole class poem:

We also made the most of today's weather and the blossom before it blows away. We spent time in the quiet area outside and sketched. This was Rosie's...

Well done Rosie!

Have a lovely weekend.
