Good morning Y6...

Miss H here again!

You are all working so hard. I have been trying to look after my mental health by doing things I find therapeutic! Myself, my Grandma and Mum have taken inspiration from Mr C and started to complete jigsaws. We are working on a Wasjig, a scene from a vet. I will keep you posted with our progress. Also, we have been doing a lot of baking which all of us find relaxing and yummy! I found an app where you can colour by numbers. When we are colouring, time floats away and the mandalas are especially relaxing to sit and colour.

So, on to today:

Reading: the usual 30 minutes, at least, please. You are going to be writing a book review shortly, so keep it up.

Science: Carrying on with our topic of Living things and their habitats today. Research the scientists Carl Linnaeus and his system of classification. How will you present your ideas? Video? PowerPoint? Written form? Then, choose one of the living things below and find out how it is classified in the Linnaeus system. Complete the levels of classification to show what you have found out, which can also be found below.

Computing: On PurpleMash, carry on writing your blog diaries! The ones I have read so far are fabulous! Please comment on your other blogs to see what other people are up to.

PE: Hopefully you are all still doing the Joe Wick at 9am. I'd also like you to line up a variety of different objects of different shapes, sizes etc. on a raised level. See if you can bowl different objects over, practising your aim.

Art: Choose an object and do a still life drawing of it. Can you make it abstract in any way?

Bit of fun for you now, with everyone at home, take it in turns to close your eyes (or use a blind fold) to draw an elephant. What will yours look like? Here is mine, my Grandma’s and Mrs Hemingway’s attempt …

Here is the Lego challenge for today! From Monday, all challenges are going to be posted on the school blog. I will still post the creations that get sent to us. Remember to email me your creations! Here is the tower I made at my Grandma's house, can you beat it? If you don’t have Lego, don’t worry any construction material will do …

What an interesting two weeks it has been and Easter is here already! I hope you all have a relaxing and enjoyable weekend and holiday. Remember we are still going to be keeping in touch via the blog and we are just an email away if you need anything! Don't eat too many chocolate eggs …

Stay safe everyone!

Thursday 2nd April

admin on: Class 6

Good Morning year 6!

Well, it's almost Easter and I'm sure you've all got plenty of chocolate eggs awaiting you. So... in the spirit of this, today's English is cross-curricular, tied to RE and PSHE:

Write a report on chocolate eggs. I would like to know when they first came on the scene, WHY a chocolate egg? Does it symbolise anything? Give me some facts and write this non-chronologically, using exciting sentences, writing points etc. Pictures/photos would be great!

In order to work off all the chocolate, don't forget Joe Wicks at 9am!

Reading: The usual 30 minutes please. I would also like you to think about the two week Easter break from writing; this doesn't need to be a two week break from reading. Could you start thinking about a book? Unfortunately, Read, in Holmfirth are no longer offering deliveries, but Amazon.co.uk are. Why not have a browse?

Maths: Co-ordinates-2. Again, this should be a refresher for you; you can do any section. Or... as it's your last maths lesson for two weeks, all of it, if you want.

GPS: Today, I would like you to do the GPS SATs paper 1 - answers tomorrow.

Talking of answers, here are the answers to yesterday's reading comprehension:
1. Spain (Aragon) 2a. argumentative 2b. calm, peaceful 3. 'like two white swans' 4. he might then have been the bridegroom/married Catherine himself 5. 'burgundy', 'scarlet', 'crimson' 6. near the beginning: the entry is dated Nov 1501 and the book covers 1501-1513 7. King Henry VII.

And, to round off the Spring term, make yourself a SpeedTable grid and time yourself over 5 minutes. Alternatively, I will get hold of some blank grids and attach them to the next blog.

Here is the challenge from Miss H today! Remember to email us your creations! If you don't have Lego, don't worry any construction material will do …

Please keep in touch over Easter. I won't be putting any work on here for you to do, but I will still be thinking about you all, so I'll probably blog a little and would welcome any comments/emails/photos.

Stay happy, stay safe and keep smiling.

Mr C x
