Second week already!
We have had a very busy first full week back in Class 6, sinking our teeth into lots of new lessons and content.
In English, we used our drama from last week t inspire us to write a mini-monologue of a character from a video clip – The Ghosts of Pere Lachaise. In Maths we worked on place value, negative numbers and rounding numbers. We also started some brand-new Year 6 leaning in our Daily 10 questions and I have been so impressed with how the children have tackled it!
During our guided reading sessions this week, we were introduced to our new book – Kensuke’s Kingdom which we are all super excited about and can’t wait to read more!
Our history lessons this week focussed on The Battle of Hastings – one of my absolute favourite pieces of history! And in science this week we learned all about how light travels.
A fabulous week filled with lots of fabulous learning!

Welcome to our very first blog of Year 6! It feels so strange writing that, I can’t believe my wonderful Year 5’s are now fully fledged, oldest in the school, Year 6 students!
We have had an amazing first week back and it has been wonderful for everyone to catch up and discuss their summer.
Starting as we mean to go on, we got straight back into things, kicking lessons off with some fun drama in English linked to our new, spooky, writing topic. We eased into maths with some place value looking at numerals with up to 7 digits and of course our Daily 10 arithmetic questions – I have been so impressed with how much knowledge the children have retained over summer!
We even began our very new topic, War Across The Ages. This started with some individual presentations of the INCREDIBLE summer projects that many of the class created over the 6 week holidays. Both myself and Mrs Johnson were utterly blown away with the hard work that must have gone into them all – and the huge variety of things that were presented! From 3D dioramas, amazing artwork, fact sheets, PowerPoint presentations and diary entries – WOW! We continued this learning by working in pairs in class to research a particular war, then created a chronological timeline of 16 different wars over the years.
Not only that but we have managed to squeeze in computing, PE, Music, Reading and Grammar!
A very successful first week back!
Well done Class 6.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Year 6 and Reception

This week, the reception children came to Class 6 for a morning. The Year 6 children read with them and were very impressed with their phonics! Then, Year 6 had planned some PE games out in the playground, which the reception children loved! Here are some pictures of their morning.
University of Huddersfield Trip
admin on: Class 6
On Monday, Year 6 went to the University of Huddersfield for an open day. First, they got to meet some students who talked about their courses. Then they took part in a PE session in the HUGE sports hall. After lunch, the children took part of a campus tour treasure hunt where they got to see a design exhibition from the architecture students, sit in a lecture theatre and (their personal favourite!) visit a fake primary classroom where students learn to teach. They ended the day with a graduation ceremony where they were able to wear graduation gowns and caps. If you would like an individual photo of your child from the 'graduation', please send a message to the class email and I will send it over!
Holmfirth High School Art Workshop
admin on: Class 6
On Wednesday, Mr. Dean and 8 Year 10 pupils from Holmfirth High School came to visit Year 6 for the day and provide them with a workshop on printing. They first practised tessellating patterns using a template before moving on to using this understanding of pattern-making with polystyrene tiles that they used to print on paper. Here are some photos.
