Morning all!
Welcome to a new week.
I'll start with a joke - How many tickles does it take to make an octopus laugh?
... Ten tickles. :)
I had a visitor on Saturday:
Well, three if you count Tilly in the background and Georgie's mum; it was lovely to see them. I also saw Max and his mum (and his dog) on Friday - I can't tell you how great it is to see and hear from you all.
As I mentioned in the post on Friday, I now want to hear from you all weekly. Please get into the habit of sending a photo, an email, some work, or just posting a response to the blog. I'll chase up those of you I haven't heard from by Thursday/Friday.
Here's a great idea:
Look how Rio plans his week; we can ALL learn from him. Well done, Rio.
Reading: At least 30 minutes please.
Exercise: I'm sure you've all done it by now, but Joe Wicks (surely he'll be Sir Joe by the end of this) is on at 9am.
English: A diary reflection. It has now been 5 weeks since school ended. Do you think it will go on for ever? What do you miss? What do you enjoy?
Maths: Statistics review. Work your way through as much as you can in an hour.
Topic: This is going to be over the week and it's about the design of our school. Today I'd like you to try to map out our school layout. You will probably need to use more than one piece of paper and you might need a few attempts. Think about all the different rooms first, maybe list them. Don't worry about the playgrounds - just the building. Try to draw this with rulers and label. Take your time.
Chess: Log into ChessKid and have a practice. If we ever get back to school, we will definitely have a tournament, or a chess ladder.
A ham sandwich walks into a bar and orders a beer. The bartender says, "Sorry, we don't serve food here!"

Thank you to all of you who are keeping in touch regularly, either by emailing me direct, via a parent (class6@netherthongprimary.co.uk), or by commenting on a blog.
I am missing you all very much; this correspondence helps me to understand, as your teacher, that you are happy and engaging with the work that I am setting you. Those of you that I haven't heard from since we were forced out of school, I have begun ringing.
Going forward, from Monday 27th April, this will become a weekly procedure; we want to know that each and every one of you are safe and well (and your families are also). If I haven't heard from each of you by Thursday, I will begin emailing, or ringing you.
As a school, I hope you understand that we are trying to keep in contact with pupils and parents so that we all still feel part of the Netherthong community. If there is anything that we can do to support you and your family in any other way please let me know and we will endeavour to put something in place.

Good morning Y6...
Miss H here again!
I hope you all had a lovely Easter break and didn’t each too much chocolate! I have already told year 3 and 2 but I am quite proud of myself so going to tell you this as well. In between enjoying the glorious weather, I have been spending time painting. For Christmas, my sister got me a colour by numbers canvas to paint with a picture of a dog (She said that she had finally got me what I always wanted, my own dog!). I started this over the Christmas holiday but have not had the chance to add to it. I have found this so therapeutic and many hours have been lost while I have painted listening to music on the radio. Here is what it is going to look like …

So, on to today:
Reading: the usual 30 minutes, at least, please.
Science: We are still looking at the topic of Living things and their habitats. Animals can be grouped in many different ways. Have a look through the PowerPoint. If you can, cut out the statements and stick them on to the table, to show the characteristics of each group of animals. Here are the sheets and pictures of the sheets are here:
Now, imagine you have discovered a new creature. You will draw a picture of your animal and create a fact file detailing its characteristics. Before you design it, think about what group of animals it will belong to. Make sure you include the characteristics of that group.
Once you have designed your animal and completed its fact file, ask someone at home to classify your animal. This means it needs to be clear which group of animals it is part of, so that they are able to classify it correctly.
For example, you may want to design a new species of arachnid. It should have 4 pairs of jointed legs and be cold blooded. Its front pair of legs may be used to hold its prey. It should not have antennae. Your new animal could then be any shape, size or colour as long as it displays these characteristics. Here is the sheet for you create your own creature. Computing: On PurpleMash, carry on writing your blog diaries! I love that you are all commenting on the different blogs, so keep it up.
Art: In the news on Tuesday, the artist Tom Croft, has painted key workers for free so they have something to remember how everyone has come together and worked as a team. Here is a video link to find out more about what he did:
Today, I would like you to take some inspiration from him and create a picture of the people in your home, so you can look back and remember who you have spent so much time with. You could sketch your picture, make a collage or any other way you think of. Be creative! I look forward to seeing your pictures!
