Sometimes, I just tuck my knees into my chest and I lean forwards...
That's just how I roll!
Morning all,
I hope you have seen that I've started putting the stories on the Whole School Blog - I'm going to carry on all week, so you should all see your work. Read some of the others. While I'm thinking on, two groups are still missing... Dark and Strike of Wuhan. Come on...
Reading: I want you to read ALL four stories on the Whole School Blog, that I put on yesterday. Then I want you to write a review for them. Which was your favourite? Why? Send me your review and I'll post it tomorrow.
Exercise: I'd like you all to do some form of exercise that you've NEVER done before. Nothing dangerous Fin! Get a photo and send it to me. Here's Rogan doing some very dangerous exercise:
Don't attempt this without an adult standing by!
GPS: Semi colons - can you remember these? https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zdtny9q
Some great work by Caitie here - and look at Reuben's:
Brilliant!
Geography: This is about natural resources. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z6p8jhv
Music: I'd like you to listen to something different. Try the album 'Graceland' by Paul Simon. This is influenced heavily by the music of one particular country. See if you can work it out. Paul Simon was married to an actress from Star Wars. Who was that? It's not music I normally listen to, but it's very evocative. See what you think - let me know.
Now... some photos... and some more work:
What are you reading, Alex?
Breakfast of champions, Leila!
Samurai!
Georgie - hard at work.
And look, maybe the final visit to Netherthong by KBLA:
It might be a plan to get in touch with KBLA - she leaves town next week, for her new life. I've told her to stay in touch - especially now I know how good she is at making chocolate covered flapjack!
What do you call a man who can't stand?
Neil.
Seeya!
Monday 18th May

Good morning/ Buongiorno/ Bonjour/ Guten Morgen/ Buenas Dias/ Ohayo Gozaimasu/ Dzien Dobry!
Welcome to another week.
This week we were supposed to be doing cycling; you were all going to ride around the village without getting run over and it would have signalled a) the end of the half term and b) the beginning of the end of primary.
Sorry, Miss H here with an updated guess who ... (Remember, one of them is Mr C but which one?)
SATs are finished and projects have begun.
I feel like I should continue to set you maths and English, as you've missed quite a lot of lessons, but I'm going to take the maths from BBC Bitesize and your English will be part of your projects. I will throw in some grammar from time to time...
Reading continues to be important - FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIVES. Reading is so, SO important. I'm now reading 'The House in the Woods' by Mark Dawson - it's a bit creepy, but creepy can be good. What are you reading? I'm always thrilled to see photos of you reading and I know other staff members look at our blog and see what books year 6 read - recommendations are always welcome.
Exercise continues to be important - FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIVES. On Sunday, I met up with Mr Kershaw and we socially distanced while walking around Holmfirth and Upperthong - we saw Holly on our travels and Mrs Johnson. Make sure you get some exercise today. Joe Wicks? A walk? Cycling?
BBC Bitesize -
Maths - Challenges for Y6: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zd87xyc
English - Using hyperbole, similes and metaphors: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zhcc92p
History - Henry VIII anyone? https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z4b8jhv
Do any of these, all of these, some of these - whatever you fancy.
Here is your topic...
Population - I'd like you to find out which are the top 5 countries by population and compare them to the United Kingdom. If nothing else is gained from this, I'd like you to try to remember the population of the United Kingdom. Then, I'd like you to list the top 5 cities in the world by population and compare them to Holmfirth (or Huddersfield, if you can't find Holmfirth data). Can you find Netherthong's population?
Which of these cities would you like to live in? Do you have a favourite? Are they what you expected? WHY do you think they are so populated? What brought people there and not to other places? Write a short report about YOUR thoughts... I'll be interested to read these.
If you really want to test yourself. Try to guess the top 5 countries and cities first. See how you do.
Afterwards, test your family... see how many they can get.
The cd topic was great... here are some more which came in later:
Amy
Darcey
Guy
Holly
Rio
MarthA
It was very difficult to choose a winner, but in the end it was unanimous - so congratulations Theo - you really have a talent; I know history and technology and science are things you love, but marketing might be in your future! Well done. Have 5 house points!
We had a visit from some Coopers on Friday:
I'm in school ALL week, this week. I should be flying to Chicago on Friday, but... hey ho... I'd obviously much rather be in Netherthong - especially with the weather we are going to be getting this week. Instead of watching the Indianapolis 500, I'll enjoy gardening and cutting back the ivy on the house. Honest!
I hope you are all well. We are missing you and, who knows, we may be seeing you soon. Plans are afoot!
Take care...
Mr C
PS... What sits at the bottom of the ocean and shivers?
A nervous wreck
Fun on a Friday!

Good morning, Miss H here again! Remember that today is ‘Uniform Day’, so please send us a picture of you in your uniform!
(By sending in a photo, you consent to it being used within school and on the school website.)
At home, we have been looking through old photos and reminiscing about what life used to be like. This is something I always like to do as I am fascinated with the history behind the different photographs. Recently, before the virus, we even got out an old projector with different little slides that you have to push into the projector to move them on. Here are some of the photos that we came across of me …
Why not have a look back through some of your old photographs. You can send me some if you like and I will create a guess who collage!
So, on to today:
Reading: the usual 30 minutes, at least, please.
Science:
We are still looking at the topic of Living things and their habitats. How did your mould investigation go? We are starting today with a conclusion. Look at your results table.
Write a conclusion which answers these questions:
- What do you notice about your results and your observations?
- Is there more mould on one of the slices?
- Did the mould grow faster on one slice?
- Can you use your observations and results to answer your question?
Then make a list of the different conditions that cause mould to grow.
We are going to now look at microorganisms again, in more detail.
Have a look through this PowerPoint.
You are going to make your own microorganism! Can you use playdough or another material to design your own single-celled microorganism?
Think about which type of microorganism it will be. Will it be eukaryotic (fungi, animals and plants) or prokaryotic (bacteria)?
Perhaps it will be a fungus, with a nucleus containing its DNA. Or maybe it will be a bacterium, with its DNA free within the cell.
Complete the sheet with the name of your microorganism, its classification and any other information including its uses or effects.
Computing:
We are going to create our very own Our Wall of Smiles as a class! But how I hear you cry, we have Mrs Barker to thank for this!
Mrs Barker introduced us to something called ‘Padlet’ which is like a virtual piece of paper that we can all get to and write on! If you click on the link below, you will be sent to a new window. Hopefully, you will see that I have started us off by adding my own quote to make you smile! If you double click on the piece of paper or click the ‘plus’ button, you can begin typing. In the title part, I’d like you to put your name, then we can see who has contributed. You need to write your message to everyone then press the enter button. You can add images or doodles that you can draw by pressing on the ellipsis (…). I am looking forward to your posts to make me and others smile! Here is a link to our Padlet:
DT:
Remember, starting next week, we are going to be cooking dishes from around the world. Please do not feel like you have to purchase the ingredients especially, adapt the recipes to what you have at home. Today we are going to look at food groups.
Look through the PowerPoint. Look at each food from different parts of the world. What foods can you see? For each dish, put the food items into a Venn Diagram which could look like this:
Stay safe everyone and have a lovely weekend!

Wow - it's already mid-May! Amazing.
Happy Thursday tutti! Have an ice pop, courtesy of Caitie...
So, how did Luke Skywalker know what his dad got him for Xmas?
He felt his presents!
Writing: Today is the day to begin the end... the end of your story. Please pay attention... I will NOT be editing this for you. I would love, love, LOVE to post these on the whole school blog, but I won't do it unless you give me the OK on the email when you send it. So, talk to your partner, check and edit and think carefully.
Mrs Barker has forwarded a short story writing competition to me, which I will post later on - maybe you enter these stories? Think about it.
Today - everyone - is the end of NOT-SATs week. Well done getting to this point. I can only commend you for how you have handled the whole process and the success that you have all had. Well done - you are absolutely wonderful! I think you should speak to your parents about some kind of reward for getting to this stage.
