Another busy week in Class 6. We have started writing our tension-filled narrative called Alma in English. In maths we have looked at written methods for addition, subtraction and short multiplication. Next week will be long multiplication and division. In history we have learnt about the Spanish Armada and how it changed how naval battles were fought.
Also this week, a HUGE well done to every child who recorded a speech for the house captain role. All staff members in school were so impressed with their bravery, eloquence and maturity.
A big congratulations to the winners from each house. Here are the results and a screenshot from their speeches:

This week, in Class 6, we have wrote some amazing (and ghostly) monologues in English. Lots of varied and interesting vocabulary has been used!
In science, we made periscopes and used them to see if we could see from behind a shelf. There were... mixed results! Here are some pictures of the children making their periscopes.
In history, this afternoon, the children spend some time learning about why William the Conqueror won the Battle of Hastings as part of our War Across the Ages topic. Then, the children spent some time imagining what it would be like for the soldiers in that battle.
Have a lovely weekend!

Welcome Back!
admin on: Class 6
Welcome back, everyone! It has been fantastic to see the familiar faces of Class 5 returning as Class 6! They all looked so grown up in their hoodies on Tuesday when we gave them out.
This week, we have jumped straight into the curriculum. We have looked at place value in maths, how light travels in science and taken part in some drama in English. Also, today, we have looked at the many different wars that England and the UK have been involved in since 1066. We have created 16 posters that will be going up as reference for our topic 'War Across the Ages' (photo to follow on next week!).
Finally, I would like to say how proud I am of the children this week. They have all come back with a mature attitude and they have relished the new role they have as responsible Year 6 children. Lots of them have taken part in lunch time and breaktime jobs as prefects. I couldn't be happier with the first week back!
Have a fantastic weekend!
Mr. K

We have spent this week in full on planning and rehearsal mode, getting ready for the first outdoor Leavers' Assembly that this school has ever seen. Playscripts are becoming plays, 'prosody' (top word) and voice projection are being practised and all is going to plan...
In between times, we have done a project on our own planet, creating fact-files, information and artwork to back up the science that we have studied in upper key stage 2.
We have also engaged in the annual Y5 v Y6 rounders match, which was a fantastic spectacle of sportsmanship and talent - backed up with humour and skill.
This has been such an enjoyable year, despite everything we have all endured - next week will be quite emotional for all of us.
Enjoy the lovely weather this weekend!
Mr C, Mrs J and the year 6 team.

Another fun-packed and diverse week has flown by in year 6!
We are full steam ahead now with plans for the Leavers' Assembly, which will be held outdoors for the first time - this could well be the start of a new trend!
This week, we have started rehearsing the sketches and writing speeches and on Thursday we did our first walk through for Miss Monday (and each other), so that we all had an opportunity to offer advice to each other and look for ways to fine-tune, before we embark on full rehearsals.
Project America gave the class chance to research and present a mini-project on a country in the Americas, before we began the weekly topic, which was created by last week's winning team: Project New Country. The aim was to invent a new country, a flag, a map, a leader, details on the environment and geography (and what plants and animals have adapted to live here) and to create a history, with details on laws and any social or political issues that are pertinent. Lots of learning and consolidation here and VERY much enjoyed by all!
On Tuesday, the class had their first opportunity to work with Mrs Barker! A full day with some fantastic creations - some new creatures here too!
We have been continuing with Y7 maths problem solving (and, of course, Speed Tables and mental maths), guided reading and the class story - Worst. Holiday. Ever, by Charlie Higson.
Lots done, lots still to do!
Have a lovely weekend everyone,
Mr C, Mrs J, Miss Monday, Miss H and all the team!
