Year 6 Weekly Round-Up at Netherthong Primary School
What a fantastic week we’ve had in Year 6! We’ve been diving into some fascinating topics and developing new skills across all subjects. Here’s a quick look at what we’ve been up to:
In English, we’ve been working hard on our non-chronological reports. Linking to our topic of Jamaica, we each chose a native animal to research. From the green sea turtle to the elusive Jamaican boa, our reports are shaping up beautifully, full of facts and detailed descriptions!
Maths had us exploring ratio and proportion this week. We’ve been using practical problems to understand how these concepts help us compare quantities and scale up recipes (perhaps for some delicious Jamaican jerk seasoning in the future!).
In History, we’ve delved into the colonial history of Jamaica. It’s been an eye-opening journey as we learned about how Jamaica’s past has shaped its culture and society today. We had some thoughtful discussions about the impact of colonialism and how history can help us understand the present.
Over in Science, we’ve been busy classifying living things using Carl Linnaeus’ classification system. We sorted plants and animals into groups and discussed how scientists use this system to bring order to the diversity of life.
In PE, we’ve been refining our skills in baseball and hockey. Our batting techniques are improving, and we’ve been practicing quick and accurate passing on the hockey pitch. Teamwork and communication have been the key to our success!
Finally, in PSHE, we’ve been thinking about digital wellbeing. We’ve explored how to stay safe and balanced in our use of technology and discussed strategies to manage screen time. It’s been a great opportunity to reflect on how we can use digital tools positively while taking care of ourselves.
It’s been a busy and rewarding week in Year 6, next week we will be completing our third round of practice SATs. Good luck everyone!
