Year 6 Blog – Kicking Off 2025 with a Bang!

Welcome back, everyone! Despite a very snowy and somewhat delayed start to the new year, Year 6 at Netherthong Primary School has jumped into 2025 with enthusiasm and energy. It’s been a fantastic first week back, filled with learning, laughter, and a flurry of activities.

English – Exploring 'Voices in the Park'
We’ve launched into a new English topic with the beautifully crafted story Voices in the Park by Anthony Browne. This captivating tale, told from multiple perspectives, has already sparked some incredible discussions about narrative voice and character emotions. We can’t wait to dive deeper into the story and explore the unique illustrations and themes over the coming weeks.

Maths – A Geometric Refresh
In Maths, we’ve started the year by brushing up on our knowledge of shapes and grids. From reflecting and translating shapes to rotating them across a grid. We’ve also revisited co-ordinates and topped up our arithmetic skills to ensure we’re sharp and ready for the term ahead.

Jamaica – Our New Topic Begins!
Our brand-new topic this term is all about the vibrant island nation of Jamaica! This week, we’ve explored the human and physical features of the island, from its stunning beaches and tropical forests to its bustling cities and rich cultural heritage. There’s so much to learn, and we’re excited to journey further into this fascinating country in the weeks to come.

Reading and SATs Prep
With SATs on the horizon, we’ve wasted no time getting back into reading comprehension practice. Tackling a variety of texts, we’ve been honing our skills to ensure we’re confident and prepared. Year 6, you’re already showing great focus and determination – keep it up!

Catching Up and Reconnecting
Finally, after two weeks away, it’s been wonderful to catch up with one another. Hearing about everyone’s holidays, adventures in the snow, and New Year’s resolutions has brought such warmth and joy to our classroom. It’s clear that we’re ready to tackle 2025 together, and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come.

Here’s to a fantastic term ahead! Stay warm and keep working hard, Year 6!
