What a busy and exciting week it has been in Year 6! Here's a little insight into what we’ve been up to across all our subjects:
English
This week, we’ve been focusing on letter-writing, and not just any letters – we’ve been drafting heartfelt messages to our heroes! The children have been working hard to explain why their chosen hero is so important to them, adding personal touches and persuasive language to their writing. After planning and drafting, we polished our work through editing sessions to ensure every letter is as perfect as can be. Everyone is now eagerly hoping their letters will inspire a response!
Maths
In Maths, we completed our topic on fractions with a focus on multiplying and dividing them. The children showed excellent progress and confidence with these concepts. After fractions, we moved on to learning about co-ordinates. We practised reading and plotting points in all four quadrants before taking on some challenges with translating, reflecting, and moving shapes across the grid. The class worked brilliantly and seemed to enjoy the practical and visual nature of this topic.
Science
This week in Science, we revisited some learning from Year 3, focusing on healthy eating and the benefits of different foods for our bodies and organs. It was fantastic to see how much the children remembered and to build on their prior knowledge. From protein for muscles to vitamins for immunity, we’ve explored how the right foods can keep us strong and healthy.
History
In History, we explored the anti-war movements of the 20th and 21st centuries. The children learned about the importance of peace activism and the power of people working together for a common cause. Inspired by what they learned, they designed their own anti-war posters filled with striking imagery and thoughtful slogans. Some children even created anti-war poems and lyrics – a truly creative and meaningful way to engage with this topic.
Christmas Play Practice
The festive season is truly upon us, and that means Christmas play rehearsals are in full swing! This week, we achieved a huge milestone by doing our first full run-through without needing scripts or lyric sheets. The children were fantastic – their acting, singing, and enthusiasm are shining through, and the play is shaping up to be something truly special. Everyone is excited to perform for parents and carers soon.
It’s been a brilliant week filled with learning, creativity, and collaboration. Well done, Year 6!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
Mrs Clayton
