Class 6’s Final Week at Netherthong Primary School – Half Term Roundup!
As we reach the last week of the first half term of Year 6, it's safe to say it’s been a long and tiring few weeks! However, despite the busy days and full timetable, the children in Class 6 have still managed to pack in plenty of exciting learning during this final week.
In English, the class has been focusing on newspaper reports. The children delved into the historical event of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. After learning the ins and outs of this pivotal moment in history, they wrote detailed newspaper reports recounting the event. The hard work didn’t stop there though! After drafting their reports, they took extra care to produce a best and final version in their writing journals. We’ve certainly got some budding journalists in our midst!
Over in maths, it was a week full of problem-solving and number crunching. Class 6 has been working on long multiplication and long division, honing their skills to tackle more complex sums. The children also explored angles, learning how to measure and identify them. To top it off, they mastered converting fractions to decimals, a tricky skill that they took on with determination and focus.
In science, the class ventured into the world of light and shadows. They explored how shadows are formed by designing and performing their very own shadow puppet theatre. This hands-on project brought out plenty of creativity and teamwork. Additionally, the children learned about the colour spectrum and experimented with filters, discovering how certain filters block out particular colours of light. This fascinating topic had everyone excited to learn more about the world of physics!
As we wrap up the week and the term, I’d like to wish everyone a happy half term break and a happy Halloween!
Happy half term, Class 6! See you soon!
