Happy Friday everyone! I hope you are keeping dry in this weather! I hope you’ve had a good week. It’s been lovely to see a few Year 2 children in the keyworker bubble and I even spotted Florence while she was out for a walk. Don’t forget, I’m thinking about you all, all the time and miss you greatly.
So the suggested schedule for today is as follows...
E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20 mins
Active time - Go Noodle (I’m loving all the NTV guided dances) or Andy’s Wild Workouts
Maths/Literacy - do this in batches of 20 mins each, build in breaks.
Creative Friday
Maths
LO: Tell the time using digital and analogue to the nearest 5 minutes.
- 35 add 17 = ?
- Which number is odd? 92, 94, 96, 98, 99?
- 72 minus 20 = ?
- Half of 22
- What number is 9 more than 45?
- Make 90p with 3 coins
Have a look at this ‘Analogue clock’. This shows what we call analogue time. Can you remember that when the minute (long) hand is in the pink it is a ‘past’ time and when it is in the blue it is a ‘to’ time.
Have a play around with this online clock.
Can you set the clock to 6:15. What the analogue time is this?
Did you say ‘quarter past six’.
Repeat with 6:30. How would we say this analogue time?
Did you say ‘half past 6’.
Set the clock to 5:45. Do we say ‘45 minutes past 5’? What would we say?
Get your adult to test your time skills by choosing different digital times and working out how we say those times in analogue.
Here is a time pairs game – you can play like a traditional memory game or if you want to match the pairs and stick them in your books you can do:

How did you get on with your comic strip story? Here’s the template again if you need it. Today I’d like you to complete the next three parts of the story. Remember you can use speech bubbles to help tell the story and more detail in your sentences underneath. The next three parts are:
The birds asked Platypus to join them.
Platypus decided to stay on his own.
All the animals agreed with Platypus’ decision.
Here is Tatham’s to give you some inspiration:
I look forward to reading yours!
Creative Friday
Here are the rain stick instructions from last week. I’m guessing that so many of you made one and that’s why we’re having all the rain at the moment!
https://www.bakerross.co.uk/craft-ideas/kids/aboriginal-rain-stick/
They use a kitchen roll tube, but you could use a crisp tube or cocoa tin. They fill the tube with rice, but you can use dried beans or lentils. You can listen to a real rain stick here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRrri6bTDCw Does yours sound the same?
I’ve been following an artist called Tracey English on Pinterest. She makes collage pictures from paper – paper that she has coloured herself, or scraps of wrapping paper and even newspaper. Here are a few examples of her work…
Why don’t you have a go at creating your own collage of an Australian animal?
Have a fantastic day and send me all your photos by lunchtime to ensure you appear in this week’s gallery.

A BIG hello and good morning to you all!
I thought that I would share this with you today, my partner, James has been a key worker throughout these troubled times. He is a line painter, keeping our roads safe. This week he was asked to do something little different and special. He was asked to paint something for our wonderful NHS, here it what he did …
Apparently, the rainbow was like a jigsaw! Have you seen any random acts of kindness lately?
Here's the suggested timetable:
E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20mins (remember to record your reading in your reading record)
Active time - Joe Wicks is showing guiding a PE lesson at 9am (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ)
Don’t forget GoNoodle:

This half term, we are going to be looking at living things and their habitats. We are going to focus on microhabitats. We have been learning about the different habitats where living things make their homes.
Some of these habitats are very big, like a woodland. Some habitats are very small; we call these microhabitats. A large habitat contains many microhabitats. A microhabitat can be as small as a fallen branch or the space under a stone.
Here is a PowerPoint all about microhabitats and minibeasts we find in them.
I would like you to go on a search in your local environment and find two microhabitats. Have a look in the microhabitats and complete a survey to see which minibeast you can find in there? Here is an example of a table you could create to collect the results:
Can you create a pictogram of your results? Which minibeast did you find most of? Which minibeast did you find least of?

In the news at the moment, there are many conversations about something called Black Lives Matter. This is following an incident in Minneapolis with George Floyd and the subject of racism. Here is a clip from Blue Peter explaining what racism is and why it is important to discuss this issue:

It is our duty to treat everyone with the same amount of respect no matter the colour of their skin, their belief or where they come from. The book you have been looking at with Mrs B sends a great message out about being an individual. Here is a paragraph of it which I know you have looked at already:
Can you create a song which displays how brilliant we are at treating everyone equally? We would love to hear it!
PE
In PE we are going to carry on with Paralympic sports!
Today, I would like you to have a go at sitting volleyball. Teams aim to hit a ball over a net and land it within the opposition’s court. Can you use something to create a net like a blanket and hit a ball over it to someone on the other side. You must do this while you are staying sat down. Good luck! Here is a video of sitting volleyball at the Paralympics in London 2012.

You are really getting into making your compositions! This week I would like you to make another composition but adding in your own sounds under the tab “My sounds”. Good luck!
Have a wonderful day and remember to keep smiling!

Good morning Class 2! I hope that you are OK today. Thank you for sending me your lovely Platypus paragraphs, they really are wonderful and I know Miss H was really impressed with them too. She loves the message that the Platypus is sending and will do some PSHE work on the theme tomorrow. So we had time to do our standing long jumps yesterday - have a look at them here:
Who do you think is the winner?!
So the suggested schedule for today is as follows...
E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20 mins
Active time - Joe Wicks is showing a PE lesson at 9am or Go Noodle
Maths/Literacy - do this in batches of 20 mins each, build in breaks.

LO: Find halves, thirds, and quarters of amounts.
- 73 add 11 = ?
- Which number is odd? 6, 17, 28, 16, 40?
- 45 minus 25 = ?
- Half of 18
- What number is 5 more than 67?
- Make 70p with 4 coins
Look at this number sentence:
1/2 of □ = □
Think, and then discuss with your adult what numbers complete this number sentence.
Look at this: 1/2 of 5 = 10. Now you be the teacher. Is this correct?
Repeat with 1/4 of □ = □, and share your ideas. Have you noticed how the number in the first box is 4 times the number in the second box?
Look at this: 1/3 of 12 = 6. Now you be the teacher again. Is this correct?
Now write your own numbers to accurately fill the boxes:
1/3 of □ = □.
Have a look at these fraction problems:
Now have a go at this build a fraction game:

Can you retell the story of ‘Why Platypus is such a special creature’? See if you can talk it through with your adult without forgetting any of the main parts. If you need to look back at the story to help you, then do. If you think back to question 8 from yesterday, you’ll see the main 6 parts of the story.
Today I’d like to start to rewrite the story in comic strip form. You can download a template here. It has 6 main boxes for your illustration to each of the 6 parts. You could use speech bubbles with the characters in your drawings and then write about the scene underneath. Try to make your sentences exciting, with different starts. Only do three parts today (The Creator made the Mammals, the Fish and the Birds, The Mammals asked Platypus to join them, The fish asked the Platypus to join them) and we’ll finish the rest on Friday.

LO: What are the stories about Jesus healing and caring for people?
What do you already know about the life of Jesus. What did he do? What did he say? Who did he spend time with? What did he teach us about how to live our lives?
Have a look at this clip:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uupg0V-17NU
This is the same story here:
Feeding the 5000 – Matthew 14:14-21; Mark 6:33-44; John 6:1-14
A large group of people followed Jesus into the mountains. Jesus taught them all day. When the sun started to set, the disciples realised that the people had not eaten and could not easily return to the city to get food. Jesus asked Philip where they could buy food. Philip said that even if they had a store to buy food from, they did not have enough money for all the people. But Jesus already knew what He was going to do.
Jesus then asked if anyone had food that they could share. Another disciple, Andrew, brought a boy’s lunch to Jesus. It had five loaves of bread and two fish. Jesus took the bread and fish and prayed over them. He then gave the food to his disciples who started passing it out to the people.
Amazingly, as they handed out the food they still had more left. They continued to give out the food until all the people had eaten all they wanted. When they gathered the unused food back together they had 12 baskets of bread left!
After reading the story and watching the clip, discuss these questions:
- Why were they there listening to Jesus?
- What was the journey like on the way there?
- Which words describe the actions of Jesus?
- Imagine you are the boy with the loaves of bread. What would you say to Jesus when you gave him the bread? What do you think Jesus would say to you?
- Imagine that you are one of the people picking up the scraps that were left over. How would you feel when you realised there had been enough food for everyone?
I hope you have a wonderful day! Keep smiling!

Good morning Class 2! Thank you for all your emails over the last few days. Daniel has been asking whether myself and Miss H can do the long jump and who would jump the farthest. So today we will have a little competition and we'll post the results. I think it is fairly obvious, who will jump the greatest distance, don't you?!
We hope you have a lovely day; here's the suggested schedule for today...

LO: Find halves, thirds, and quarters of amounts.
- 32 plus 9 = ?
- Which number is even? 5, 17, 29, 16, 41?
- 35 minus 15 = ?
- Half of 16
- What number is 3 more than 98?
- Make 60p with 4 coins
You’ll need some Lego bricks or similar today to help you. Have a look at this…
1/4 of 12 is ?
Remember how we can find a quarter by sharing the bricks into 4 piles. Have a go yourselves, hopefully you’ll agree that there are 3 bricks in each pile, therefore we can say: 1/4 of 12 = 3.
Add another 3 bricks to your collection so there are 15. Look at 1/3 of 15 = Remember how we can find 1/3 of an amount by sharing it into 3 piles. Do this and hopefully you’ll agree that 1/3 of 15 is 5.
Have a look at the bar model below – what does it show?
Divide the 21 bricks into three piles. Write and complete the sentence: 1/3 of 21 = ?
What number do you need to write in each of the 3 spaces in the second bar?
Have look at this second bar model diagram:
The top number is the number of bricks you need to count out. The second bar shows us the fraction. Here, there are four parts, so the fraction is 1/4. Complete the sentence: 1/4 of 40 = ?. Write your number in each space in the second bar. How many bricks would be in 3/4? Three quarters is three of the spaces, so complete the sentence: 3/4 of 40 = ?.
Look at this third bar model, can you find 2/3 of 12?
Now have a go at this:

I hope you enjoyed yesterday’s story. I think it such a special story with a great message. Today I would like you to read it again and answer these questions:
- The Creator made three different types of animals, what were they?
- Name three features of the Platypus
- What was the name of the kangaroo?
- Why do you think Platypus had to think about joining the Mammals family?
- What does the word ‘almighty’ mean in the sentence: Cod, leapt out of the water and came down with an almighty splash.
- Why do you think Platypus couldn’t make up his mind about which group to join?
- Which tribe did the hunter belong to?
- Put these events in order:
1) All the animals agreed with Platypus’ decision.
2) The fish asked the Platypus to join them.
3) The Creator made the Mammals, the Fish and the Birds.
4) The Mammals asked Platypus to join them.
5) Platypus decided to stay on his own.
6) The birds asked Platypus to join them.

The Paralympics are just as important as the Summer Olympics as it allows athletes with an impairment to participate in competitive sports. I always admire and respect the Paralympians as they have to work twice as hard to achieve their goals! Today, you can going to complete the Para sport, Boccia. Here is a video of what Boccia is or an explanation is here:
Boccia is a target ball sport which tests both muscle control and accuracy. From a seated position, players propel balls to land as close as possible to a white marker ball, known as the Jack. Two sides compete as individuals, pairs or as a team of three over a set number of ends (4 for individuals and pairs, and 6 for teams).
Each side plays six balls (red or blue) each end. After each end, the athlete, pair or team with the ball closest to the jack receives 1 point plus an additional point for each ball closer to the jack than their opponent's. Points are accumulated over the course of a match to find a winner. Although simple to get started, the tactics of the sport offer both tension and excitement as the game plays out.
Balls can be rolled down a ramp, thrown or kicked. If a player is unable to release the ball with their hands, they can use assistive devices, such as a head pointer.
I would like you to have a go at this sport, involve people from your house and let me know how you get on!
Here is a video clip of Boccia from the olympics in 2012 which were in London.

Music
It is time for music! Remember, each week we are going to learn a song from a different era. We will be saying a goodbye to the 70s, but a big hello to the roaring 1980s! Here is the song Walk Like an Egyptian by The Bangles. Try learning this and performing it to people at home! Also, do a little research into music in the 1970s. Here are some questions to help you get started:
- Which artists were popular?
- What genre of music was most popular?
- What instruments were used most during this decade?
Make notes and let me know how you get on! Here is a link to a YouTube video of the song and here are the lyrics.

We hope you all have a fabulous day, wish us luck for the long jump!

Good morning my lovely Year 2 class, how was your weekend? I hope you had a nice time - we did see a little sunshine didn’t we? I went to support my sister-in-law, Jannine, who shaved all her hair off in support of my nephew, Ewan, who is in hospital for cancer treatment. It was very emotional but I was so proud of her and the whole family. Calendar News were there, so I believe it will be on ITV tonight, if you get chance to catch it.

Here are 16 counters in an array of 4 × 4 array. What is half of 16? What is a quarter of 16?
Share 16 counters (or Lego bricks, buttons etc) into four groups to find that a quarter of 16. Remember that finding a quarter is the same as finding half of a half.
Have a look at this ‘Design a Flag’ sheet:
There are 24 squares on the flag. How can we work out half of 24?
Have a look at this ‘Design a Flag’ sheet 2:
Is half of this flag shaded grey? Can you count the squares just to be sure?
Look at ‘Design a Flag’ sheet 3:
Is half of this flag shaded grey?

Today we are going to read another story from Stories from the Billabong by James Vance Marshall and Francis Firebrace. Our story this week is called ‘Why Platypus is such a special creature’. This is the story that inspired my Aboriginal dot painting.
Read the story with your adult, discuss your thoughts about it. Do you agree with the Platypus when he says that each of us is different and therefore special in our own way? I hope that you do. I think that the paragraph that starts ‘So Platypus went on. “Please let me explain… is extremely relevant at this moment in time.
Today I would like you to write out Platypus’ explanation in your best handwriting or on a word processor if you prefer. You could decorate the outside of your writing with drawings and patterns. When you do this, think carefully about the words and what this paragraph means. By writing it down, you will understand the meaning more. When you have completed the activity, place your writing somewhere in the house – perhaps on the fridge or on your bedroom wall. Read it often, perhaps learn it by heart and think about how wise the Platypus was.
